KATHMANDU ― Korean soap operas and dramas are in high demand in Nepal as they are loaded with love, tragedy and family troubles and touching acting, scripts and plots.
In a country widely dominated by Western and Indian lifestyles, Korean soap operas, dramas, fashion and film are becoming increasingly popular.
Lilisa Shrestha, a student at Shepherd College of Media and Technology, has been adding an extra dimension in her life; Korean drama. She picks up DVDs of Korean dramas and has started to act in the manner depicted on the shows.
"I am hanging out with Korean drama", Shrestha says.
Her affection for Korean dramas was not of her choice. She used to be a regular viewer of Korean films. After watching the drama "My Girl" she started to love Korean dramas and now they have become the part of her life.
"I can't keep track of time while watching Korean dramas", Shrestha said. "I do not take my eyes from the TV until they finish".... |More

Korean actor Jang Geun-seok performs at his fan meeting [Asia Economic Daily]
Korean actor Jang Geun-seok held his second fan meeting in Korea over the weekend, attracting scores of domestic and overseas fans to the event.
The actor met with some 3,000 fans -- including 700 people from eight countries overseas -- at his fan event, held at Seoul's Olympic Park Olympic Hall on Sunday.
Jang performed songs from the soundtrack to his recent TV series "Minamishineyo" as well as past hits by other K-pop artists including "It's Raining" by 'Rain' and "Heartbeat" by 2PM.

Actor Jang Geun-seok, who is gaining wide recognition in the entertainment fields of movies, TV drama and music and has been dubbed one of next-generation stars for 'Hallyu' or Korean Wave, was appointed on Jan. 21 as a 'PR Ambassador' for Seoul City.
As the youngest PR Ambassador for Seoul, Jang, who is becoming one of South Korea's best-loved actors in Japan and China for his main role in an SBS drama "You're Beautiful", will promote the city's unique and great charm to the world in the wake of the '2010 Visit Korea Year – With Seoul'. Raissa Villasin, a Filipino woman living Norwalk, Calif., is a long-time fan of Korean dramas, having stumbled on one while channel surfing in 2002.
She got hooked, watching Korean dramas on local channels LA 18 or KXLA 44, and on online streaming sites where she enjoyed dramas such as "Wedding" and "You're Beautiful".

Korean actor Jang Geun-seok is reportedly attracting his fans from overseas to a local fan meeting later this month, according to his agency Tree J. Company on Monday.
The event was originally organized for some 3,000 Korean fans but 23 percent of the tickets were reserved by the actor's fans overseas -- particularly those in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Jang, who has never done any official work in the Chinese market, gained a huge fanbase in the region after starring in the SBS TV series "You're Beautiful" last year. In November, the Chinese fans visited the set of "You're Beautiful" and attended Jang's fan meeting in Japan.##
