  • [HanCinema's Film Review + Video] "Real Fiction": Inert experiment or deep drama?

    2014/10/25,
"Real Fiction" (2000) is a gritty experimental film of sorts, arguably embryonic entertainment that purposefully tinkers with the art of filmmaking with debatable results. The film was reportedly shot in 200 minutes (cut to 84) and contains an interesting mix of formal framing and dirtied handheld footage. It may not be entirely convincing in both plot and purpose, but this compact and nihilistic nugget is still worth watching to see what happens when Kim Ki-duk (alongside Kang Cheol-woo) throws caution to the wind,...More

  • [HanCinema's Hall of Fame Review] "The Bow": Dead-Reckoning Romance

    2014/04/19,
In the Spotlight this Week: Kim Ki-duk's "The Bow"... Whether it be the dumb pander in "Bad Guy" (2002), the silent sneak in "3-Iron" (2004), or the mute monks of "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring" (2003), Kim Ki-duk loves silencing his puppets for our amusement. By hushing his heroes Kim sharpens our eyes to the meditative magic of the moving image. Dense dialogue and consuming chatter play second fiddle to the slow and symbolic seduction of curious characters lost in space. This is Kim's world, a placid and ethereal place that orbits a volatile sun with unseen molten madness at its core. There are both deep-seated and distance threats lurking in Kim's creations, forces that exist just out of frame that may, at any time, strike and sully the event with unadulterated Armageddon and subconscious conspiracies,...More

A wittingly good plot! by sakuragarden

T
his story is genius! It's lack in dialogue highlights the beautiful acting out of thoughts and emotion. I enjoyed the part where the hero was hiding from the prison guard. It just sheer genius! An innovative way to make an unforgetable film. Our generation needs more of this. I personally hail the writer and director with much admiration for this film. Thank you so much. I hope a lot more follows after you.

Such a cool story and plot 2007-05-05

This film is such a cleverly written story with not much dialogue but very expressive in art form and acting. So unique, it should be released internationally and be recognized in Cannes or the Oscars.
