  • [HanCinema's Hall of Fame Review] "3-Iron": Ghosts, Golf, and Silent Love.

In the Spotlight this Week: "3-Iron" by Kim Ki-duk Ever get that feeling that someone is watching you? That tingling sensation from one, but you're not quite sure which one, of your senses that makes your ears perk up and your eyes dart around suspiciously. If we were in a horror flick, as we often suspect, it would be at this precise moment-after a crashing crescendo, naturally-that a black cat would spring out from nowhere, an unexpected visitor would burst through a door you were about to open or, get ready to run now, something would violently reveal itself and crystallised your fears. Most of the time we 'snap' out of it, take a gulp of cool rationality and calm ourselves back to, what we believe to be, the sane reality that our personal bubbles and bodies have not, in fact, been violated. It was just our imagination, a glitch in the matrix, or someone running over our future graves. But those uncanny inklings often persist-as they often threaten to do, even if it's just for fleeting instant-and we are prompted to pinch ourselves and remember, and as Kim Ki-duk's "3-Iron" concludes, that "it's hard to tell that the world we live in is either a reality or a dream",...More
  • After ups and downs, cinema in golden age

    2013/10/14, Source,
Actor Ahn Seong-gi has been in the movie business so long, he can barely remember his first role. He was just 5 years old when director Kim Ki-young cast him to play an orphan in a couple of scenes in "Twilight Train" in 1957. "It was just a couple of scenes", Ahn said in a phone interview. "I don't remember much. But I did a good job, so he offered me another role. I guess there were not many child actors in those days, so soon I was a regular actor". Like the rest of the country, South Korea's movie industry was rebuilding after the devastation of the 1950-53 Korean War, which means Ahn's career has been nearly as long as the Korean film business. Today, Ahn has starred in more than 70 movies, many made by Korea's top directors, and now is one of the country's most visible ambassadors for cinema,...More

A wittingly good plot! by sakuragarden

his story is genius! It's lack in dialogue highlights the beautiful acting out of thoughts and emotion. I enjoyed the part where the hero was hiding from the prison guard. It just sheer genius! An innovative way to make an unforgetable film. Our generation needs more of this. I personally hail the writer and director with much admiration for this film. Thank you so much. I hope a lot more follows after you.

Such a cool story and plot 2007-05-05

This film is such a cleverly written story with not much dialogue but very expressive in art form and acting. So unique, it should be released internationally and be recognized in Cannes or the Oscars.
