The project marks the comeback of the 36-year-old, who gave birth to her first child after appearing in the low-budget melodrama "My Dear Enemy" last year. She recently received a cultural merit medal from the French government, Chevalier-Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In 2007, she won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for "Secret Sunshine". Featuring the provocative themes of adultery, murder and misguided desire, the original 1960 movie is hailed as a masterpiece that greatly influenced Korean cinema.  Director Lee Jae-yong, best known for his elegant and erotic period drama "Untold Scandal" (2003), is in production on his latest film, a semi-improvisational ensemble piece with the working-title "Actresses". The low-budget feature boasts six of Korea's top female stars, all of whom have agreed to work on a deferred payment basis. The film centers on a day-long fashion shoot in which all of the actresses will be playing themselves and sharing candid stories with the camera. YANG Ik-joon continued his victorious round along European film festivals. YANG's "Breathless" won four more awards over the weekend. Deauville Asian Film Festival awarded Breathless the Grand prix (best film) and the International critic's award.
At International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria it were the actors who took the honours for "Breathless" with a Best actor (YANG Ik-joon) and Best actress award KIM Kkob-bi). NA Hong-jin's "The Chaser" is still not running out of breath, this time adding the Best action Asia film award from Deauville to its impressive tally. Deauville categorised The Chaser in the Action Asia section. It is the second year in a row for a Korean film to sweep the top honours at Deauville; last year Deauville crowned JEON Soo-il's "With a Girl of Black Soil" with the Grand prix and the International Critic's award. Major Korean film magazine Movieweek polled to find out who Koreans regard as the ten greatest screen personas. JEON Ji-hyeon's role in "My Sassy Girl" claimed the top spot for greatest female character with 21% of the votes. 25% votes for SEOL Kyeong-gu's character in the "Public Enemy" trilogy secured SEOL the greatest male character title.
In close pursuit of SEOL is CHOI Min-sik's "Old Boy" character (20%). SONG Kang-ho's "Memories of Murder" character came in third (11%). The top three for women is completed by second placed IM Soo-jeong (19%) for her role in "I'm a Cyborg, but That's Ok", and third seed LEE Young-ae. LEE's performance in "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" earned her 13% of the votes. Movieweek compiled another Korea's greatest characters list by itself. Staff Reporter Renowned movie star and musical actor Hwang Jeong-min will star in a new play, "University of Laughs" written by Japanese dramatist Koki Mitani. The play will be shown in Korea for the first time as the ninth work of the Yeongeuk Yeoljeon 2 (Best Plays Series) programmed by veteran actor Jo Jae-hyeon. The play will be staged at Dongsoong Art Center in central Seoul Oct. 24 to Nov. 30. The piece is a comedy based on the story of an artist's freedom of expression when faced with censorship. The work is a two-man play set over seven days amid World War II in 1940. A young playwright comes up against a government censor to put a comedy on stage. The censor's job is to prevent anything political or taboo from getting into the pre-war media, but this particular censor has a thing against comedy, too.
