Actress Jeon Ji-hyeon has made a foray into action movies by playing a leading role in the movie "Blood", which opens June 11 worldwide. In "Blood", which marks Jeon's Hollywood debut, she appears wearing a school uniform and flying in the sky on wires. Her new role stands apart from her previous roles of sexy and sassy gals.

In an interview on May 12, Jeon said her role in "Blood" proved to be more challenging than she thought, but that she was lucky to try it with the help of foreign filmmakers who didn't know her well and thus gain new experience.

"Blood" is based on the same-titled Japanese animation by famous cartoonist Mamoru Oshii. It is a multinational project overseen by producer Bill Kong, who produced "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Hero"; director Chris Nahon, who produced "Kiss Of The Dragon"; and director Corey Yuen Kwai of "Transporter".

Jeon plays a 16-year-old half-human-half-vampire girl who is ordered by a government agency to destroy vampires. The act...| More

Jeon took part in the preview of her latest film "Blood: The Last Vampire" in the island country.

Actress Jeon Ji-hyeon has visited Japan for the first time in three years to attend a preview of her latest movie "Blood: The Last Vampire". It was also her first official appearance in a year since her last appearance in the film "A Man Who Was Superman" in January last year. Last month, she extended the contract with her agency, Sidus HQ.

Appearing with Japanese actress Koyuki at the preview, the 27-year-old shared how she felt about playing the role of 17-year-old vampire hunter Saya in a Japanese school uniform and with parted, braided hair, saying "I felt a bit embarrassed, but it was good to play a young girl". The Japanese co-star, who plays the mortal enemy of Saya, said, "We did our best to shoot intense action scenes, and it was like Jeon was made for Saya".

"I found it interesting that a woman has fight scenes with another woman, and Koyuki was a perfect costar to work ...| More

Debutant director Park Dae-min brings a delicious mix of drama, comedy and adventure in "Private Eye", which, moreover, paints rosy prospects for South Korean cinema as it signals the potential of homegrown detective films.

Set against the Japanese colonial period (1910-45), the movie invites viewers to hop on coolie-drawn carts and join an accidental Sherlock Holmes (Hwang Jeong-min) in tracking down a serial killer on the loose.

If 2007's "Shadows in the Palace" hinted at the possibility for an Agatha Christie-style suspense, "Private Eye" promises something more solid, and perhaps even a serial franchise. It keeps things smart and intriguing rather than mind boggling or cryptic, and leads the audience half a step ahead in the cat and mouse game. The movie also manages to be entertaining without being too light as it gives birth to a detective with character.

Hwang plays Hong Jin-ho, one of those amiable rude people, whose successful surviva...| More

KOFIC (chairperson KANG Han-sup) is commencing two events in order to revitalize the film interchange between Korea and China.

First of the two events is '2008 Korea-China Business Campus' which will take place from Thursday, November 13 to Monday, November 17, over the course of 5 days. The event will mainly focus on the process of sharing films as well as co-production opportunities. This event first took place in 2006 in China, and then moved to Pusan International Film Festival in 2007 as a forum format, thus making this year's event second edition to be held in Korea. First annual event focused on the effect of Korean manpower and resources in Chinese film industry, while the current Business Campus will concentrate on not only the further advancements of above but how Korea and China can collaborate on projects that promote exchange of resources between the two countries. The event will hold pitching/mentoring sessions, seminars, business meetings for producers, production/po...| More

"The Good, The Bad, The Weird", a $17-million oriental Western by veteran filmmaker Kim Ji-woon, topped the domestic box office in its opening weekend, selling a record 2.19 million tickets in four days since its release on Thursday.

The strong performance was widely expected, not least because the blockbuster project included Korea's three most bankable actors -- Lee Byeong-heon, Song Kang-ho and Jeong Woo-seong.

What's notable is that the movie has also signed on for a rare deal: English subtitles. Although only CGV Yongsan theater provides the Korean movie in English subtitles, it seemed a welcome change for a growing expat community in Korea.

The English subtitle for "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" is part of the program that CGV, the country's biggest multiplex chain, kicked off earlier this year with "A Man Who Was Superman", starring Jeon Ji-hyeon ("My Sassy Girl"), targeting non-Korean audiences here.

CGV's decision to screen the movie with English subtitles also ref...| More

Synopsis

SONG Soo-jung is a producer going on her third year at a small company. Her specialty is human interest stories. She is driven to produce these shallow stories for the sake of her ambition of one day becoming Korea’s own Oprah Winfrey. However, she is reaching the end of what’s left of her pride. One day, after months of not getting paid, she leaves her office with the company camera to produce a story on a lion apparently refusing to eat its meal. On her way, however, she comes across a robber, but she is saved somehow by Superman in a Hawaiian shirt. “Superman” claims he’s unable to tap into his supernatural powers as the bad guys have placed kryptonite inside his head. However, he doesn’t let that get in his way from helping others, from saving the world from global warming to saving a lost puppy. Soo-jung can see this will make a good story and, with a little tweaking and a little fabricating, she produces the Superman Saves the World documentary which goes on to be a ratings hit. However, the true story behind this “Superman,” including the bullet and not the kryptonite that is lodged in his brain, helps the frosty, calculating Soo-jung to awaken to what’s truly important in life.
