 Kim Yoon-jin won the Best Actress award for her role in the film "Seven Days", a story of a child abduction, at the Annual Daejong Film Awards held Friday at the COEX Convention Hall. Kim beat out Jeon Do-yeon who has won eight best actress awards at home and abroad so far, including one for her part in "Secret Sunshine" at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival last year.Filled with emotion, Kim could barely speak as she accepted the award onstage. "I'm stunned to receive this award", she said. "I'm honored to have been nominated along with Jeon and the other actresses. This award is on behalf of all the staff and crew of 'Seven Days'.  "Seven Days", starring "Lost" star Kim Yoon-jin is getting an explosive response. With a fast-paced storyline and a complicated plot, the movie released on Nov. 14 appeals especially to movie fans in their 20s. Overseas markets have also shown interest: at the American Film Market recently, U.S. production firm Summit Entertainment, the maker of popular movies such as "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005) and "Vanilla Sky" (2001) snapped up the right to a remake for US$1 million. 'In a sense I almost see "The Murmuring" as their coming-of-age film'.
Byeon Young-joo was young and confused when strangers gave her warm praise for her film without having seen it. In 1994 at the age of 27, Byeon was fresh out of women's college with a law degree. That's when she first shot "The Murmuring", a feature documentary on Korean women forced by the Japanese army to become sex slaves during World War II. When released the following year, her documentary helped mark the height of activist filmaking and feminism in Korea, the two civilian movements that were major achievements of the democratic struggles in 1980s Korea. The response was overwhelming. Every student she met at film venues had heard of her. Yet most of them had not seen her film. Kim Yoon-jin, a rising star in Hollywood due to her growing part in the ABC drama "Lost", has returned home. She stars in "Diary of June" alongside Sin Eun-kyeong and Eric Moon, playing the part of a mother who must come to terms with the suicide of her son because of bullying at school. The movie is released on Dec. 1.
Kim's return to the Korean film scene comes three years after her performance in "Ardor" won her Best Actress in the Cheongryong (Blue Dragon) Movie Awards. Kim caught a 10-hour flight from shooting "Lost" on location in Hawaii to be there for the premiere. These days the actress is busy enough for 10 of her. Ewha Womans University is to hold the first Ewha Korean Film Festival Nov. 2-4 at the International Education Building (LG Convention Hall) inside its campus in western Seoul. "The first Ewha Korean Film Festival will provide Korean films, which received critical acclaim overseas and domestically, to the international community with English subtitles", organizers said in a statement. Ewha Womans University stressed that this is the first film festival to offer all Korean films with English subtitles.
