KOFIC announces recipients of indie DVD support fund

The Korean Film Council has selected ten works to be released on DVD as part of the 2006 DVD Production/Distribution Support for Independent Films. The recipients were selected out of 24 submissions, and will be made available for sale to the general public in special DVD box sets.

The following features, documentaries and short film collections will be included:

This independent film festival tells more stories than usual

January 28, 2005 ㅡ A camera, a director and actors are all one really needs to make a good film. This will be proven true again at the Indie Story Omnibus Film Festival, which starts tomorrow at the Seoul Art Cinema and runs through Feb. 4.
Organized by Indie Story, Korea's only surviving independent film distributor, the festival features seven Korean films and 10 from abroad, under the theme "omnibus productions". The festival organizers describe the omnibus film ―a collection of shorts ―as an alternative method of independent film distribution (as is digital technology).
Cinephiles can enjoy a feast of interesting ideas in films like "Coffee and Cigarettes" (2003), directed by Jim Jarmusch. With an extremely eclectic cast that includes Bill Murray, Iggy Pop, Cate Blanchett, Roberto Benigni and the band The White Stripes, it's a series of seemingly unrelated stories, all of which somehow have to do with coffee and cigarettes. Omnibus Film Festival draws Indie flicks

A string of films by unknown and veteran directors will be featured at a festival in Seoul in an effort to support the creation of independent movies in Korea.

Organized by Indiestory, an independent films distribution company, "Omnibus Film Festival" will screen the works of Asian, American and European filmmakers from Saturday, Jan. 29, to the following Friday, Feb. 4, at the Seoul Art Cinema in Jongno-gu.

The festival highlights "omnibus films", a format where a number of films are viewed together in one sitting.

Cult favorite and indie veteran Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee & Cigarettes" (95 min.), a string of tales that serve up dialogue and abundant amounts of caffeine and nicotine, will play on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.

"One Piece!" by comedy directors Shinobu Yaguchi and Takuji Suzuki is among films included in the Omnibus Film Festival.
