Against all odds, Seung-ho and Woo-bak finishes first in the preliminaries but when Seung-ho’s blindness is discovered by the officials, they’re disqualified from the finals. • [HanCinema's Drama Review] "My Unfortunate Boyfriend" Episode 7

As expected, Ji-na is able to pull through the presentation like a Champ. And as mostly predicted, "My Unfortunate Boyfriend" continues with a tonal shift toward the subdued. The transition has been nearly seemless. It's pretty unmistakable here that character actions are dictated by personal motivation rather than a desire to make things wacky for the sake of being wacky. Ji-na's actually pretty consistently uncomfortable here as the target of an elaborate dating scheme,...More
  • [HanCinema's Box Office Review] 2014.09.12 ~ 2014.09.14

"Tazza 2" keeps its roll going… "Tazza: The Hidden Card" had a fantastic week and managed to extend its lead at the top of pile. Kang Hyeong-cheol's comedy drama attracted over 540K filmgoers (26.7%) over the weekend to move its total tally now to 3.1M ($24.6M), which makes it the ninth highest-grossing Korean film of 2014 having just overtaken Director Chang's "The Target". Kang's closest competition came in the form of the American musical drama "Begin Again" and its 351K (17.1%), but otherwise the top ten remained largely unchanged except for Frank Miller's neo-noir "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" creeping in at ten,...More
  • In Korea, dogs finally get their day

    2014/08/30, Source,
Dog owners pose with their pets at the second Animal Film Festival in Suncheon, South Jeolla, a six-day festival that ended yesterday. By Oh Jong-chan "I give him love, unconditional love. Only death will part us. I can always trust his love. It's unfeigned and passionate". This affectionate line is not from a romantic comedy, nor is it in reference to a man or a woman. Rather, it's from a movie about a dog that was shown during the second Animal Film Festival in Suncheon, South Jeolla. The six-day event, which ended yesterday, saw about 5,000 people swarm to the festival venue with their dogs or cats, despite the cloudy weather in Suncheon and the heavy rain across the country,...More
