The city of Florence in Italy is currently playing host to 30 Korean films. The eighth edition of the Florence Korean Film Festival takes place this year from March 12-20. The festival, supported by various local groups, KOFIC and the Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism, shows mostly European and Italian premieres of new Korean films. This year the festival is comprised of a K-Horror section, the competitive Orizzonti Coreani section, the Independent Korea section (also competitive) and a retrospective on director HEO Jin-ho.
Given the notable status of the horror genre in Korea, the festival is screening seven horror films, to be presented by famed Italian director Dario Argento. The section includes KIM Seong-ho's "Into the Mirror" (2003), LIM Pil-seong's "Antarctic Journal" (2005), PARK Ki-hyeong's "Whispering Corridors" (1998) and "Acacia" (2003). "Whispering Corridors" is particularly notable for kicking off the highly successful Yeogo goedam series of school girl horror ... |More

Performance Industry Meets the World
Among the various factors that constitute human life, culture has the greatest capacity to nurture connections and exchange. One culture quickly absorbs the advantages of another culture and develops to integrate naturally into a large wave.
The same applies to the performance industry.
While it is difficult to compare live performances with other genres as they are played out directly in front of an audience, they often borrow from the sources, forms and contents of different genres. In 2010 the performance industry will meet and interact with other genres.
Reinterpreting works from different genres
Recently, the Muk Company announced that the film "JSA - Joint Security Area" will be produced as a musical.
"JSA - Joint Security Area" is an example of one-source, multi-use in the publication, film and musical fields. Based on the 1996 novel DMZ written by Park Sang-yeon, the 2000 film "JSA - Joint Security Area" was directed by Di... |More

Jainnie's cine korea
Speaking as one who's been there, Chengdu, China, might not be the prettiest city in the world. But in "Season of Good Rain", director Heo Jin-ho manages to mold the city into a subtly exotic backdrop of a bashful romance.
Creating a mood through scenery is one of Heo's fortes, whether it is the bamboo forest in "One Fine Spring Day" (2001) or the shabby photo shop in "Christmas in August" (1998).
The movie is a joint production between production companies in Korea and China, and there were reportedly a number of requests by the partner firms in China that Heo include Chinese elements in the movie. The city might not have been Heo's first choice but the director brings out a charming picture of the city including a scenic park dedicated to Chinese poet Du Fu and a city center where the old and young gather to dance.

Japanese fans of the Korean Wave are about to get a special gift.
Four stars who were at the vanguard of the wave - Lee Byeong-heon, 39; Jang Dong-gun, 37; Song Seung-heon, 33, and Won Bin, 32 - have teamed up for a live show dubbed "Four of a Kind", set to run at the Tokyo Dome on Dec. 17.
This Hallyu, or Korean wave event, unprecedented in its scale, was reportedly conceived independently by the four superstars, who are close friends and often meet privately.
The highlight of the event will come when all four actors perform together. The well-known Japanese producer and lyricist Yasushi Akimoto will produce the show, and Heo Jin-ho, the Korean film director known for the 1998 movie "Christmas in August" who recently directed "Season of Good Rain" starring Jeong Woo-seong and Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan, will make a short feature to be used at the performance.
The Tokyo Dome event will also provide a venue for the fans to hear from each of the stars about their lives at t... |More
