Chinese/Korean Film 'Season of Good Rain' to be Released

Korea and China has cemented its cinematic relations with the about to be released "Season of Good Rain". The film directed by HEO Jin-ho brings together the biggest actors of both countries Gao Yuanyuan (Beijing Bicycle 2001) and JEONG Woo-seong ("Daisy" 2006) and blends them into a multi lingual, trans-cultural melodrama. The shooting and the narrative of the film seem to be symbolic of the rising amount of film business between the two countries. KIM Ji-woon's "The Good, The Bad, The Weird", also incidentally staring JEONG was shot in Manchuria, CJ Entertainment's "Haeundae" is to be released in China and the same company is producing a big budget Chinese/Korean comedy, "Sophie's Revenge" staring Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon's (2003) Zhang Ziyi.

'My Sassy Girl' star takes a bite at the big time in new vampire flick

Korean actress Jeon Ji-hyeon is gearing up for a blood fest.

She's waiting for her film "Blood: The Last Vampire" to be released in Hollywood next March. She's even given herself an English name, Gianna Jun, which she thinks Western people will find easier to pronounce than her real name.

The action thriller, directed by Chris Nahon, is based on Mamoru Oshii's animation of the same name. Jeon stars as Saya, a vampire, who chases after demons. The actress starred in "My Sassy Girl" (2001) and "Daisy" (2006).

'Running Boy' Inspires Hong Kong Marathon Buddies

"We ran the Chuncheon Marathon after watching the Korean film 'Running Boy'," said accountant Lo Kwokchi, 34, from Hong Kong.

Lo and five of her friends flew over 2,000 km from Hong Kong just to participate in the marathon, which formed the background to the movie that she saw on DVD earlier this year. She enjoys Korean films and has seen more than 10, including "My Sassy Girl", "My Brother" and "Daisy" -- but was most taken with "Running Boy" ("Marathon"), the story of an autistic boy named Cho-won who overcomes his handicap by running the Chuncheon Marathon.

"The autumn leaves in the Lake Eui-am depicted in the movie were absolutely beautiful", said Lo, noting there is no autumn, with its striking colors, in Hong Kong.

Sequel of cult film Attack the Gas Station

A sequel of the 1999 comedy "Attack the Gas Station!" (Jooyooso Seubgyeoksageon) is planned to enter cinemas in its tenth anniversary year. Like the original, the sequel will also be in the hands of director KIM Sang-jin. It was announced that the scenario is halfway finished. Actors have not been cast yet.

"Attack the Gas Station!" chronicles the take over of a gas station by a young group of society's outsiders. Its cast included LEE Seong-jae ("Daisy"), KIM Soo-ro ("Vampire Cop Ricky") and LEE Yo-won ("May 18"/Hwaryohan Hyooga).

KIM also directed the comedies "Kick the Moon" (Silla-uiDalbab) and "Ghost House" (Gwisini Sanda). KIM started out as a assistant director on KANG Woo-seok's classic comedy "Two Cops".

"The Good, the Bad, the Weird" with English subtitles

CJ/CGV will screen "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" (Joheun Nom, Nappeun Nom, Isanghan Nom) with English subtitles at its multiplex in Yongsan, Seoul. "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" is directed by renowned director KIM Ji-woon and the titular roles are played by the stars LEE Byeong-heon, SONG Kang-ho, and JEONG Woo-seong.

The western dubbed as kimchi western will premiere on Thursday and CGV Yongsan will offer the English subtitled screenings for at least two weeks. CJ/CGV, Korea's leading exhibitor, intends to increasingly offer major Korean films with English subtitles to allow foreigners in Seoul to enjoy Korean cinema.

KIM Ji-woon garnered international acclaim with "A Bittersweet Life" (Dalkomhan Insaeng), also with LEE Byeong-heon in the leading role. KIM previously worked with SONG Kang-ho on "The Foul King" (Banchik Wang), and "The Quiet Family" (Joyonghan Gajeok). JEONG Woo-seong played opposite of JEON Ji-hyeon in "Daisy".
