The world's premier film event, Festival de Cannes, will open for the 61st time May 14-25 in the southern French port city. While there are no Korean entrees this year in the main competition section, five films ― including the world premiere of the anticipated blockbuster "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" ― will shine in other sections of the festival.

"The Good, the Bad, the Weird", directed by Kim Ji-woon, will be shown in the Out of Competition section. This "oriental Western" features exciting horseback races and train rides in vast Mongolian plains.

It stars three of the hottest Korean actors ― hallyu star Lee Byeong-heon (TV soap "All In"), heartbreaker Jeong Woo-seong ("Daisy") and bona fide actor Song Kang-ho ("Secret Sunshine").

The film will receive its own gala event, complete with a red carpet event. It is anticipated to be a big highlight along with the premiere of films like Woody Allen's "Vicky Christina Barcelon...

Writer/director KONG Soo-chang's latest film "The Guard Post" (GP506) opens on April 3. Like his previously directed film R-point, the film is a horror film situated in the military. This time the setting is the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea.

JO Hyeon-jae and CHEON Ho-jin star in the horror film about a mysterious slaughtering at guard post 506 and the investigating team who gets trapped at the same guard post due to worsening weather. CHEON Ho-jin played in director YOO Ha's crime film "A Dirty Carnival" (Biyeorhan Geori) and alongside JEON Ji-hyeon in "Daisy". JO Hyeon-jae starred in "Untold Scandal" (Scandal).

KONG initially worked as a scenario writer. He wrote the scenario for the JANG Yoon-hyeon directed thriller "Tell Me Something" starring HAN Seok-kyu. He debuted as a director with "R-point" which unfolds in Cambodia where a Korean military unit is dispatched during the Vietnam War.

CJ-CGV, one of the top three exhibition chains in Korea, will devote a screen at its central-Seoul multiplex in the Yongsan Station shopping center to the exclusive showing of domestic films with English subtitles. The long-term project is a team strategy between CGV and local powerhouse studio CJ Entertainment in a bid to provide the growing foreign community with equal access to popular Korean film culture.

The first film to screen at the new foreigner-friendly venue will be CJ's star vehicle "A Man Who Was Superman" featuring celebrity leads Jeon Ji-hyeon ("Daisy" (2006), "My Sassy Girl" (2001)) and HWANG Jeong-min ("Happiness" (2007), "You Are My Sunshine" (2005)). The drama, directed by JEONG Yoon-cheol ("Marathon" (2005)), opens January 31 nationwide.

The move marks the first time a large multiplex has offered English-subtitled Korean films as a regular service. Yongsan CGV is situated near the foreigner's district of Itaewon and the US Army base. Other films expecte...

Many Korean star actresses of the small screen have dismally flopped in movies although they achieve brilliant success and earn astronomical amounts of money in TV commercials. Now Jeon Ji-hyeon is taking the gamble, returning to the silver screen with "A Man Who Was Superman" directed by Jeong Yoon-cheol.

She follows in the perilous footsteps of Kim Tae-hee , who recently appeared opposite Seol Kyeong-gu in "Venus and Mars". It attracted a mere 300,000 viewers amid controversy over Kim's poor acting skills, which have been in question since her debut.

Ko So-young, whose beauty defies age, was also unlucky in films. Her movies "A.P.T" and "Go Go Sister" were both failures. And Moon Geun-yeong, once considered the queen of the small screen and the nation's little sister, fell flat on her face with "Love Me Not". After a long rest, she announced her return to TV soap opera.

Actor Lee Seong-jae will play the role of the legendary fighter Shirasoni (Lee Sung Soon).

According to his agency on the 16th, "Lee Seong-jae has signed on to star in the 52-episode series 'Shirasoni' with Ibon Entertainment".

This series will be written by Lee Hwan-gyeong who also wrote "The Age of Heroes", and directed by PD Jang Hyeong Il who worked on "Rustic Period", "Jang Gil San", and others. On location filming in China is also being discussed.

Shirasoni is a legendary fighter that was active on the Korean peninsula and in China during the Japanese colonial period. He also was involved in politics after Korea's independence supporting Shin Ik Hee, Cho Byung Ohk, and others, and passed away in 1983.

Lee Seong-jae starred in the movie "Daisy" amongst many others, and starred in the drama series "Stranger than Paradise" in 2006....
