fter watching my share of action and romance movies, I decided to travel into the horror genre of Korean movies, and "Dead Friend" or "The Ghost" just so happened to be my first pick. I typically don't have an elaborate system in picking new movies; whatever gets a decent rating and has awesome promo material usually catches my eye, and in my opinion, "Dead Friend" had both.
Sadly, when I start watching it, I began to get ... bored.
The acting isn't the greatest, slightly below average to average at best, but I have to give a round of applause to the girls for some of their constant screaming. There isn't anything particularly worthwhile in this movie, in my opinion, because I felt things could have been much stronger than what it was. I have to admit the story was nice, but the shooting of the story was rather bland (though some flashback scenes did remind me of the Japanese drama "LIFE" and I ADORE that manga/drama).
Also, for this to be considered a horror movie, it wasn't frightening at all, which was probably why I was filled with boredom.
Having watched previous movies such as this, where people are singularly picked off, it was rather predictable, but again, I stress the storyline was quite interesting, and I can appreciate the fact that this movie wasn't stretched to fit into a two hour time period! (Every Korean movie I've watched has been two hours. I dunno what THAT is about.) The ending of the movie was what woke me up. Do I damn near say I love it? Almost. It's very close, quite debatable, and rounds out all of the questions you have during the film and/or makes you realize little details you may not have noticed before. I love films which make you go "OOH~" at the end, no matter how horrible the beginning and middle may be.
If you're looking to be scared, this isn't the movie for you, but if you don't mind a decent storyline, eh, why not!
