The futures of many child stars were generally depressing.

Some 20 dramas are aired every week. There are daily dramas, morning dramas, weekend dramas… and Wednesday-Thursday dramas. In this "kingdom" of drama, "On Air", portrays how Korean soaps are made.

"On Air" is directed by Sin Woo-cheol and written by Kim Eun-sook, the creators of hit dramas "Lovers in Paris" (2004), "Lovers in Prague" (2005) and "Lovers" (2006). They teamed up again to give an exclusive behind-the-scenes view of Korean dramas.

"This is a drama about the people who create these dramas. Nowadays, Korean dramas are not only aired in Korea but in other countries as well. I wanted to write a drama about the processes and behind-the-scenes stories with a dramatic and exaggerative touch", said Kim at a press conference last week at SBS.

Actor Ahn Seong-gi continues his high profile career with a role in a big budget international co-production. The project is an adaptation of novelist KIM Hoon's "The Song of the String". According to the studio Yeonghwa Saenggak, the film will be released internationally on 3,000 screens spread out over Asia, Europe and North America.

KIM Dae-woo will direct and producer/director JOO Kyeong-joong is attached to the film as a producer, he will be assisted by the Japanese producer Satoru Iseki. The soundtrack will be a collaboration between Ennio Morricone and KIM Soo-cheol. "The Song of the String" is financed internationally. Filming is expected to commence from March and will take place in Korea and China.

The production company, as well as its director Lim Pil-seong ("Antarctic Journal", 2004), was concerned that the movie was "not scary enough", and kept emphasizing that the movie does not belong to the "horror" genre.

They are right. The move due to open today, "Hansel and Gretel", has "sadness" as its main theme. The movie is a cruel fairy tale and shows a role reversal unlike the original tale of Hansel and Gretel that we know. In the original tale, a witch captured the children, while the movie is about children spooking grown-ups.

15 Korean films are being showcased this November at the 2nd annual London Korean Film Festival, screening at the Barbican in London's financial district. Opening the weeklong festival, which runs the 2nd to the 8th, is KIM Ki-duk's 2007 Cannes competition entry, "Breath". The film quickly sold-out as has the festival's curtain-closer, "I'm A Cyborg, But That's OK", which won the Berlin Alfred Bauer prize this year for director PARK Chan-wook.

Director PARK will present the closing film and lead a 'Screen-Talk' with the audience following the screening. Two films from PARK's famed vengeance trilogy, "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (2006) and "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (2002) will also be screened, forming a mini-retrospective of the director's work.
