Staff Reporter Kim Soo-ro and Kam Woo-seong, two veteran actors, worked together on the upcoming comedy film "Ssonda" ("Shooting)". Close friends in real life, they are confident that their combination will produce some laughs. "I was able to focus all my energy on the film without having to use some of it to get to know unfamiliar co-stars", Kim said Friday during a news conference at Lafesta Mall in Ilsan, Kyonggi Province. "Working with people I know definitely helps me to make more commercially successful films". The friendship between the two 36-year-old men began when they co-starred in the 2005 comedy "A Bold Family" ("Super Family"), in which they played brothers with contrasting personalities but the same goal: their father's fortune. In the new film, directed by Park Jeong-woo, the actors play men with totally different personalities who accidentally meet at a police station and spend the night together. The movie depicts their struggles in gettin...| More

Staff Reporter What do you get when you mix a romantic comedy with a thriller, combining "lovey dovey" scenes involving a couple in love with those of bloody murders? These seemingly unmatchable ingredients produce hilarious jokes in "My Scary Girl (Talkom, Salbolhan Yonin)". At a glance, the movie tries to tell a cliche love story between a naïve man and attractive woman, but soon it enjoys a sudden ride of twists and parodies on conventions and formulas too often used in many romantic comedies. Directed by Son Jae-gon, the movie revolves around Hwang Dae-woo (played by Park Yong-woo), a man in his early 30s, who becomes desperate to find a girl to go out with. He has never been in a relationship with a girl. He is handsome and has a decent job as an English literature professor at university, but the problem is he is cranky, rational _ not the type for romances with the opposite sex. But things change when Lee Mi-na (by Choi Kang-hee) moves into the...| More
November 17, 2004 ㅡ Can an elementary school teacher and one of her students really fight over the same man? That's what director Jang Gyoo-seong's new film "Lovely Rivals" (Yeoseongsang vs. Yeojeja) is all about.
He describes it as a comical story of competition between a childish teacher and a mature student. The two competitors' beloved target is a handsome art teacher who has come to the school for the new semester. The teacher and the student struggle to get his attention, going through many funny happenings in the process. At first glance it may appear to be a sequel to Mr. Jang's "My Teacher, Mr.Kim" (Seongsaeng Kim Bong-du), which was also set in a small, rural school. In "Rivals", however, Mr. Jang pushes the envelope further, not only making people laugh but using social commentary as well. Mr. Jang says his first film, "Fun Movie" (Jaemineun Yeonghwa), inspired him to be more conscious about the substance of his work. "You know, "Fun Movie" parodies many scen...| More
