Preston Sturges meets The Wire, with a side of Buster Keaton. SUBERB! One of the best movies we've ever seen in any of the Freer's film series -- which is saying a mouthful. Utterly charming, and refreshingly funny. I can't recommend Going By the Book too highly.

Going to the Box Office! by HD Kuya

I
t's a shame a movie this good never made to the cinemas in my country. With all the Hollywood popcorn flick booking all the spots, Going by the Book isn't highly regarded here.

If polices in Indonesia are like Jeong Do-man, then the respect for the police here are mutual. I'm not saying I don't respect the police here, but some of them are after people's wallet content than being by the (police) book. Even so, having a officer like Do-man would mean frustrating too, because he's just too strict.

Jeong Do-man gave the new chief, Lee Seung-man, the run for his money. If you're a fan of police movies, especially with a theme of negotiation in it, than this movie offers different. Do-man was given the role of robber by Seung-man, in a simulation robbery in his small town, to act to future events better. But Seung-man didn't know that Do-man was so good! Even, when he felt a suprise joy while doing it, I could understand. With a big & deeper case being some kind of background in Do-man law enforcement career, he only want what's better for the city he's protecting.

That the morale side, the humor side is projectile in good portion. For me, the humor isn't that original, but put into the movie in a nice way. Watch it in any kind of day you have, & I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
