Synopsis

Professional assassins for hire, Sang-yun is the cool-headed leader of the group, Jung-woo is the specialist in custom-made bombs, Jae-young is the unmatched sniper, and Ha-yun is the computer wiz. They're not your typical wise guys, but run a private business where people from all walks of life can come place an order. After they meet their clients and discuss the time, place and method by which they want their targets to be eliminated, they sign a formal contract. They even have a discount rate for students. Once the deal is done, they carry out their mission and finish it like a typical day at work. Then, one day, they leave a trail behind on a big job, and Inspector Cho hunts them down. While he is hot on their trail, Sang-yun meets a client and is confronted with a dangerous order he can't turn down. The client wants someone killed in the middle of a sold-out performance of "Hamlet" which will be attended by high-profile businessmen, politicians and law officials. Inspector Cho learns of this, and sends the whole police force to catch them in the act. Still undaunted by the risks, Sang-yun leads his group in what could be the last mission they'll ever get away with.

Director Jang Jin has made it big once again. His latest comedy 'Going by the Book' topped the box office in its first week and attracted 1.2 million viewers in ten days. It was number one in advance tickets on all reservation sites in the fourth week of October and has topped the box office for the second week. Jang's witty script about a mock bank robbery drill, coupled with new face Ra Hee-chan's directing and Jeong Jae-yeong's seasoned acting, has grabbed audience attention. The film received a record score for a comedy in a preview screening. And since being released, word-of-mouth praise continues to spread.

Charismatic head of Filmitsuda

Jang's prominent talent has been recognized in his work in both theater and cinema. He first made his name on stage when he won the 1995 Chosun Ilbo daily's literary contest in the drama category, after which he staged successive quality productions that won both critical and commercial acclaim. His first step in film was his participatio...| More

"Going by the Book" (Bareuge Salja) is the feature film directorial debut of RA Hee-chan. The comedy's protagonist – a righteous and punctual policeman – is played by Jeong Jae-yeong. JANG Jin is responsible for the scenario.

Jeong's character follows rules to the extremes and it causes his downfall from detective to traffic agent. When he is given the role of a bank robber in a bank robbery simulation, he again fails to grasp the situation and goes too far, causing such mayhem that the media rush to the scene to cover the 'bank robbery'.

Ra was the assistant director of JANG Jin during the film "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene"). JANG Jin is known for his particular style for adding comedy elements. JANG wrote and directed films like "Someone Special" and this year's "A Day with My Son". He also wrote the script for "Welcome to Dongmakgol".

Jeong is a regular collaborator with JANG; including "Someone Special", "Welcome to Dongmakgol", "Guns and Talks" and "Righteous Ties"...| More

Director Jang Jin is famous for his twisty and unconventional storylines and creation of peculiar characters in such works as "Guns and Talks" (2001), "Someone Special" (2004) and "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene", 2005).

Having successfully won over a lot of fans with his particular style, it is no doubt that the audience has high expectations for his new film, "A Day With My Son", even if it seems to have many elements typical of a melodramatic tearjerker _ it is a story about a man serving a life sentence who gets one day out of jail for the first time in 15 years to meet his son.

But the new film is a total disaster as it is too Jang Jin-esque.

In the film, Lee Gang-sik (played by Cha Seung-won) is a criminal, who serves a life sentence in prison after being convicted of murder and robbery. For the first time in 15 years, the well-behaved prisoner is granted a one-day prison leave.

What he wants to do most is to see his son, whom he ...| More

Inventive director JANG Jin portrays this time the relationship between an estranged father and son in his new film "A Day with My Son" (Adeul). The father is played by CHA Seung-won and the son is a role for RYOO Deok-hwan.

The drama will open May 3rd. A Day with My Son is a project by production company KnJ Entertainment and is distributed by Cinema Service.

JANG Jin has been influential as a scenario writer and director, and among his films are "Guns and Talks" (Killeodeului Sooda, 2001), "Someone Special" (Aneun Yeoja, 2004), "Righteous Ties" (Georookhan Gyebo, 2006) and he wrote the screenplay for "Welcome to Dongmakgol" (2005).

CHA has been successful as a comedy actor, but in recent years he has also built a reputation for dramatic roles, most notably with his performances in "Blood Rain" (Hyeorui Noo, 2005) and "Murder, Take One" ("The Big Scene" - Baksoochil Ttae Tteonara, 2005) another collaboration with JANG Jin.

Don't presume the film "If You Were Me 3" will be a dull political morality lesson.
The third edition of an omnibus film series produced by the National Human Rights Commission is part of an ambitious project by the state to promote awareness of social discrimination in Korea. The film, however, takes the audience beyond a mere political viewpoint, luring them with styles that are distinctively new and visually stimulating.
Perhaps the fact that each section was shot by a celebrity director has something to do with this, but the six stories featured are more open-ended than didactic, poetic rather than political.
In the first and second editions, which appeared in 2003 and 2005, directors highlighted the stories of social minorities, including young North Korean defectors, ethnic Koreans from China, children and contract workers.
In "Tongue Tie" from the first edition, for example, Park Jin-pyo ("Too Young to Die") showed a young boy studying at an English kindergarten who was forc...| More

Guns & Talks by Rogue

T
his movie allows us a glimpse into the lives of assassins. They do not seem to be hard-core killers, in my honest opinion, but they DO kill people for a fee. Described as a quartet of male assassins, the group aim to please their clients to the point of running after a police car carrying the guy our assassins are supposed to kill. A detective becomes suspicious and begins surveying the group's activities. This does not do well for our unlikely heroes who are to stage their biggest assignment yet - to kill a guy during a Hamlet play, in front of hundreds of people (client's preference, hehe). With the cops on their trail, will our assassins be able to pull this off?

Surprisingly, I was entertained by the movie. It wasn't at all boring considering that there were more 'talks' rather than 'guns'. The actors were funny enough without trying hard to be so. Although there were a few unbelievable scenes far and in between, you just have to suspend your disbelief and take the movie for what it is - a fun one.
