The 14th Lyon Asian Film Festival ended its 5-day run November 9, closing with the French premiere of Korean film "The Chaser" by NA Hong-jin. Korean films won the majority of the 20 awards handed out at the closing ceremony.
KIM Dong-hyun's "Hello, Stranger" won third place in the Grand Prize category, and second place in both the Youth Prize and the New Asian Cinema Prize category. "Tropical" by LEE Sang-woo won third place also in the latter category.
In the Best Feature Animation section, "If You Were Me - Anima Vision 2" took third place prize. Prizes for short films went to animated short Stop by PARK Jae-wook, winning first prize, and "Sweat", a short by "The Chaser" director NA Hong-jin, which took second prize.

The Korean film, "Hello, Stranger", directed by Kim Dong-hyun, garnered three awards at the 14th Lyon Asian Film Festival, which ended its five-day run on Nov. 9.
The film received the third place prize in the Best Feature Film category and second place finishes in the New Asian Cinema section and from the youth jury.
"Hello, Stranger" tells a story of a North Korean defector's unlikely bond with an illegal immigrant from Vietnam as they travel together from Seoul to Busan.
The film touches upon sensitive social issues such as the discrimination North Korean refugees and foreign laborers experience in contemporary Korean society.
Other Korean recipients from the festival included first place for the animated short "Stop", by Park Jae-wook and second place for the short film, "Han", directed by Na Hong-jin, the auteur behind the recent domestic box-office juggernaut "The Chaser".

Indiestory (Korea Independent Film Distribution Company) celebrates its tenth anniversary with events in Seoul, Lyon, and Hong Kong. Indiestory is unique in Korea as it is fully dedicated to the distribution of independent cinema.
In Seoul, Indiestory opened the Oh! Indieful Film Festival on 9 November and the festival is hosted at the venues Seoul Art Cinema, Indiespace, and Cinema Sangangmadang until 20 November.
At the 14th Lyon Asian Film Festival from 4 November until 8 November, Indiestory opened the special celebratory program titled 10th anniversary of Indiestory to showcase Korean independent cinema. The selected films were: "Hello, Stranger" (KIM Dong-hyun), "If You Were Me - Anima Vision 2"(AHN Dong-hee, KWON Mi-jeong, HONG Deok-pyo, JEONG Min-yeong, LEE Hong-min, LEE Hong-soo, PARK Yong-jae, RYOO Jeong-woo), and "Written" (KIM Byeong-woo). | Pakistan & Myanmar Hold Korean Film Fests (Source) |

The South Korean Embassy and Pakistan National Council of the Arts are holding a Korean Film Festival at the National Art Gallery in Islamabad, November 5 – 6. The event will screen four Korean features spanning eight years.
The festival will open with IM Kwon-taek's 100th feature, "Beyond the Years" (2007), a music-themed reprisal of his '93 classic "Sopyeonje". Rounding out the program are BONG Joon-ho's monster hit "The Host" (2006), and two films from the year 2000, PARK Dae-yeong's comedy "Just Do It!" and YANG Yoon-ho's firefighting blockbuster "Libera Me". KOFIC supported English-subtitled prints for those two films.
Meanwhile, over in Myanmar, the former capital city of Yangon hosts a 4-day Korean film festival, kicking off Nov. 7th. The 37th International Film Festival Rotterdam, scheduled to run from January 23 to February 3, will present a broad selection of Korean films in its line-up.
Although no Korean films will compete in the festival's main competition section for first and second films, the short film Waiting will participate in the festival's short film competition. The film, which was commissioned by the Jeonju International Film Festival as part of its Short! Short! Short! project, centers on a woman waiting for a train who encounters a boy who acts in strange ways. This marks the second year in the row that the film's director, KIM Jong-kwan, has had a short film competing at Rotterdam.
Three Korean features will screen in the Sturm und Drang (Cinema of the Future) section.
