  • [HanCinema's Hall of Fame Review] "The Terror Live"

In the Spotlight this Week: Kim Byeong-woo's "The Terror Live" Despite going head-to-head against the unstoppable "Snowpiercer", Kim Byeong-woo's "The Terror Live" held its own at the Korean box office last August where it eventually amassed over 5 million admissions. As Bong's futuristic extravaganza was absorbing the limelight, Kim's third feature was quietly causing a stir of its own and helped secure the South's most successful year in film history. The film itself is a one-man show starring Ha Jeong-woo (a dynamic talent who has been involved in hits such as "The Berlin File", "Nameless Gangster, and "The Chaser") who grabs and holds the camera's gaze for most of the film as he attempts to negotiate the destructive wills of a bomb-blasting terrorist,...More
  • [HanCinema's Image Gallery] "The Terror Live"

A selection of shots from Kim Byeong-woo's "The Terror Live"... Along with Bong Joon-ho's "Snowpiercer", the Korean box office was set on fire last August with the help of Kim Hyeong-woo's ("WRITTEN") thriller "The Terror Live". The film stars Ha Jeong-woo ("The Berlin File", "Nameless Gangster", "The Chaser") as a shamed radio presenter brought back on air after a bomb blows up one of Seoul's bridges. The mysterious terrorist only wants to deal with Jeong-woo's character (Yoon Yeong-hwa), but there is only so much Yoon can do as corporate corruption and his own past come bubble to the surface in this intense and claustrophobic thriller. The film attracted 5.5 million admissions during its run, and was one of the most popular Korean films of 2013. Enjoy! [spoiler],...More

One of the most popular trends we saw in 2013 was the rampant release of action-packed thrillers! It's a genre that Korean cinema favours and continues to return to, but in 2013 the industry really did pump out a number of successful hits that contributed to the record-breaking tickets sales last year enjoyed. It's tricky to pinpoint films that are 'pure' thrillers because Korean films often blend and bend their genres in unique and creative ways. That being said, here is a quick look at the top 5 Korean thrillers that have stormed their way to box office glory,...More
