Actress Shim Eun-ha to Marry Next Month

Shim Eun-ha, one of the nation's top actresses in the 1990s, announced on Tuesday that she would marry next month.

Her husband-to-be is 39-year-old Chi Sang-wook, the only son of Hansung Industrial and a research professor at the Graduate School of International Studies of Yonsei University, according to a news release.

"We started to get a good impression of each other through a meeting between friends late last year and we have been dating since this spring", the 33-year-old Shim said in a statement. "We confirmed the marriage in early July and families of both sides met late last month".

Shim said that she was attracted by Chi's "warm heart and kind attitude" while Chi pointed out Shim's "loveliness" and "beautiful mind" as her major attractions.

"Just as I have done as an actress, I want to have a successful family as the wife of one man", she said.

The wedding is set to take place on Oct. 18 at the Sheraton Grande Walkerhill Hotel in eastern Seoul.

This is from Genesis 3:6 of the Bible, a verse that portrays the scene where Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit. The movie "The Scarlet Letter" starts with this verse.


"The Scarlet Letter" is producer Byeon Hyeok's first film in four years, after he became famous for the 2000 movie "Interview", his first feature film, and the 1991 short film "Homo Videocus". Pusan film fest gains growing influence

The Pusan International Film Festival wrapped up its nine-day run yesterday, confirming its growing popularity among movie buffs in Korea and Asia.
The much-celebrated annual film festival featured 266 movies from 63 countries, a lineup that has set a new record in its nine-year history. A horde of celebrities at home and abroad showed up in the southern port city of Busan to join the festival whose influence is fast expanding in Asia.

The event closed its schedule with the screening of "The Scarlet Letter", a local film by Daniel Byun. Following his feature directorial debut "Interview" in 2000, the new film is appealing to both the public and critics considering its delicate camera work, mature performance of actors and a well-refined plot.

Fans of Han Suk-kyu, star of local hit movies such as "Shiri" and "Christmas in August" will be able to see him in his upcoming movie "The Scarlet Letter" before its domestic release at the end of October as it is the closing film at PIFF this year.

"I really wanted to shoot a movie and play a different and more complicated role than before", Han told reporters in a news conference in July. "And I picked up this movie as my next film after my long break".

Directed by Daniel Byun, who returns with his second feature film after the melodrama "Interview" in 2000, the romantic thriller also stars three popular actresses _ Lee Eun-joo, Sung Hyun-ah and Um Ji-won.

"The movie is more about people's desire rather than romance", said Byun during the conference. "I think you have to pay for satisfying your desire, which I want to depict in the movie".

Pusan film fest pursues cinema diversity

The Pusan International Film Festival will kick off its much-touted nine-day run Thursday, featuring 266 films from 63 countries - the most in the festival's nine-year history.
Organizers said they have put much emphasis on the diversity in international cinema, screening more works from Africa, Latin America and other regions, though its perennial focus on Asian films will remain intact.

"More countries will be represented at this year's Pusan Film Festival in a way to make the event more enjoyable for movie lovers", said Kim Dong-ho, director of the PIFF.

The festival, to be held Thursday through Oct. 15 in the southeastern port city of Busan, will open with a reworked version of "2046" by China's much-admired director Wong Kar Wai.
