Synopsis
What is it like when you love a woman?
Yoon Ji-woo, who had been plotting a fake suicide with pickpocket Kang Ji-woo, is cuffed by detective Min-yong and falls in love as destined. Jeong Ji-woo and Hee-jin hear about their love story and start asking questions. Director Kim Soo-hyeonís latest film, "Life is Peachy", is a story about three people, all named Ji-woo, that brings a new approach to presenting the sentiment of love through the language and bodies of women. Did they truly fall in love? Did they tell the truth? "Ashamed" travels between reality and fiction as it caresses the wounds and memories of love.
While her first film "So Cute" (2004) was a story of a father, a son and the woman between them, "Ashamed" addresses of the pain and reconciliation among a group of women. Kimís narrative is subtle and very unique in its delivery of familiar emotions into a new kind of experience, proving Kim is a filmmaker that possess a rare sentimentality in Korean cinema. 2011/12/07, Source,
After 30 years at the Berlin International Film Festival, Wieland Speck will be celebrating his 20th year as head of the festival's Panorama section next year. While he was in Seoul on his annual film hunting trip around the region, Jean NOH met with him to talk about his thoughts on Korean cinema, the Berlinale audiences and how he programs for them. KCT: How important for you is this annual trip around Asia, after the American Film Market (AFM)? Speck: For me, the trips to Asia and South America are very important trips because there are so many amazing filmmakers and they are inspiring the Western filmmaking a lot. The European view on the world, especially the Western European view on the world, is a little bit like simmering in the same broth for many years now. And then, yes, we already have the most interesting film countries in the world [in Asia].So having our eyes out for where inspiration lurks, this is what we definitely need for our culture in general, but also for the filmmaking,...More

  • Film examines child abuse case

    2011/08/24, Source,
"The Crucible" is a film based on the true story of hearing-impaired children being sexually abused by their teachers. / Yonhap By Lee Hyo-won Life is often stranger than fiction, and both director Hwang Dong-hyeok and actor Gong Yoo were shocked to discover that Gong Ji-young's bestselling online novel about child sex abuse was based on a true story. The "Coffee Prince" actor, who read a hard copy of the book while serving in the military, proactively sought a way to turn "Dogani" into a film. Hwang on the other hand greatly hesitated about adapting the 2000-2004 case in which the teachers and principal sexually abused students at a Gwangju school for the hearing impaired,...More

  • Kim Ui-suk, New Chairman of Korean Film Council

    2011/05/08, Source,
By HAN Sunhee   KCT: You have previously been to Cannes as a director, when your film "Sword in the Moon" was invited to 'Un Certain Regard' section. Your shoulders must feel much heavier returning to Cannes this time. Kim Ui-suk: Going to the Cannes for "Sword in the Moon" in 2003 was my first time at the festival, and this will be my second visit. It's been about 8 years and it is still the best to be at a film festival as a director. Back then Korea cinema was on the rise with "Old Boy" and "Woman is the Future of Man" competing, so I was relatively out of the spotlight. As a director I had nothing to worry about, but since I am going as a different position it feels quite different. In all, I must introduce Korean cinema and make many formal exchanges with the industry people from around the world,...More

Yoon Eun-hye was careful yet feisty at an interview in a café in Seoul, with the movie "My Black Mini Dress" coming soon on the 24th. She seemed as though if there were no problems with it being published, she would talk honestly about everything for hours. She said she was hurt most my bad comments and articles as bad as they are,...More

And he became a romantic actor with his appearance in the MBC TV drama "My Princess", which had finished airing on February 24, by playing an elite diplomat and heir of a chaebol named Park Hae Young. Song came to a restaurant located in Nonhyundong for an interview the very next day after the drama aired its last episode, and talked about many things regarding himself, now 16 years after his debut. Q: Did you have a good sleep? I heard that you had a killer filming schedule for "My Princess". A: On February 24 when the last episode aired, I filmed the drama until six in the evening and then we had a culminating party right away. Even though I did not drink a lot of alcohol, I was completely out of it, maybe because I was too tired. I heard that my manager had tried to wake me up in front of my house for almost one hour. But today I woke up early at seven in the morning. I could not get enough sleep for the last two months, so I could not sleep more in the morning. Since I could not watch the last episode yesterday due to the party, I just watched the last episode,...More

by Berlin = KIM Hong-chun (KOFIC International Promotion Center, East Europe Manager) On the night of Valentine's Day – when the 61st Berlin International Film Festival began – the 'Korean Film Night' hosted by the Korea Cultural Center in Berlin, was in full swing. The 'Korean Film Night', co-hosted by the Korean Film Council, Pusan International Film Festival, and Women's Film Festival in Seoul, actively supported the promotion of Korean films as this year's Berlin International Film Festival was the first to feature ten Korean films with the night's other function being to promote substantial exchange between Korea and overseas' film businesses. 300 participants were expected at this event, but almost 500 movie movers-and-shakers attended, making it absolutely clear that there was a higher-than-expected interest and very welcome response towards Korean film,...More
