JANG Dong-gun and LEE Myeong-se Return to Earth

Korean wave star JANG Dong-gun is collaborating again with auteur director LEE Myeong-se on his latest project, simply titled Earth. JANG, who last worked with LEE 9 years ago, acting in his 1999 classic "Nowhere to Hide", will be doing voice-over narration for the new film this September.

"Earth" is said to be an atmospheric contemplation of life on earth, capturing beautiful and thought-provoking images with shooting taking place in Europe, Japan, and exotic locals around the world. JANG's deep, resonant voice was selected to enhance the meditative depth of the film.

Director LEE is known for his visually striking and meticulously choreographed features such as his recent films "M" (2007) and "Duelist" (2005), as well as his early work "Gagman" (1988) and "First Love" (1993). JANG has starred in numerous features including the hit film "Friend" (2001), "The Coast Guard" (2002) and his recently completed Hollywood debut in the upcoming fantasy-western "Laundry Warrior".

Pretty boys overtake the screen... this fall is the season for them

After the female-dominated last year and after this summer filled with men, it will be the season for pretty boys.

The faces are brilliant.

Kang Dong-won, who had stayed inactive after "M", will come back with "The War of Flower" Director Choi Dong-hoon's "Jeon Woo-chi". He is the first of the pretty boys, and will play a character who is born again into modern times after being trapped in a picture due to his wasteful life.

People look forward to Kang Dong-won's special comedy, which he showed in "Too Beautiful to Lie" and "M", and how it will tie in with his innocent appearance.

KIM's East-Western Set for Gala NA Premiere

The North American premiere of KIM Ji-woon's eagerly anticipated 'oriental western' "The Good, The Bad, The Weird", will have a Gala showing at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. Running the 4th to 13th, TIFF is the top film festival in North America and one of the world's most prestigious, along with Cannes, Venice, and Berlin.

KIM's western, which had its World Premiere at Cannes this May, is the first Korean film to receive a Gala screening at the Toronto fest. Other Korean films, such as "Secret Sunshine", "The King and the Clown" and "M" have enjoyed screenings in TIFF's World Cinema section.

"The Good, the Bad, the Weird" will be released locally on July 17th. The film, revolving around a treasure map, stars SONG Kang-ho, LEE Byeong-heon and JEONG Woo-seong and is set in Manchuria during the Japanese colonial period. The Chaser Top Winner at Grand Bell Awards

Hit thriller, "The Chaser", the top Korean film at the box office for the first half of 2008, was also tops last Friday at the nation's annual film awards fest, the 45th Daejong (Grand Bell) film festival, held in southern Seoul. Director NA Hong-jin's debut feature picked up six awards including Best Picture, Director, Cinematography and Actor for KIM Yoon-seok).

Actor KIM, known for numerous supporting roles, won for his first lead performance as the cop-turned-pimp who is hot on the trail of a serial-killer played by the equally gifted HA Jeong-woo. KIM also won the BMW Popularity award at Daejon. "The Chaser" went on to captured the Best Production award as well.

The Best Actress award went to KIM Yoon-jin for her role in another successful thriller, "Seven Days", a tale of kidnapping and blackmail.
