Korean film "Season of Good Rain", starring Korean actor Jeong Woo-seong and Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan, has been selected as the closing film for a Korean film festival to be held in Los Angeles next month.
"Season of Good Rain", by famed directed Heo Jin-ho, will close the four-day long Korean Film Festival in Los Angeles (KOFFLA) on March 7. The fest is set to open with Korean film "Le Grand Chef - Kimchi War" starring Kim Jeong-eun and Jin Goo.##

A weekly series of Korean movies, organized by the Korean Cultural Services is coming to New York. Showing at the Tribeca Cinemas, the series will focus on Korean independent features. The industry of late has been somewhat shaken up by a number of seemingly unknown low budget, independents that have risen up and taken their place at multiplexes across the country. The series will profile some of these features that have all so triumphed abroad.
Most notably, playing on the 23rd of January is "Breathless" (2009) directed by and staring YANG Ik-joon. The film has had an impressive run, racking up awards at Rotterdam, Vladivostok, the Fantastic Festival and more recently at FILMEX in Tokyo. It has also played at the Barcelona Asian Film Festival, the Deauville Asian Film festival and the Reel Asian Film Festival in Toronto. KIM Hye-ja triumphed again, this time she won the best actress award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA). APSA bestowed her the honor for her performance in BONG Joon-ho's "Mother - 2009", the film which was showered with critical acclaim at Festival de Cannes.
"A Brand New Life" won APSA's best children's feature film's award. The tale of an adoptee girl is directed by Korean-French adoptee Ounie Lecomte and is produced by LEE Chang-dong. (Director of "Peppermint Candy", "Oasis", and "Secret Sunshine")
Director BAEK Seung-bin received the NETPAC award for "Members of the Funeral". Multi-awarded YANG Ik-joonepicked up another honor in the form of a high commendation for his acting in "Breathless", the film he also wrote, directed, and produced.
KIM was recently crowned best actress by China's major film awards institute China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival as well. Busan Critic's best actress award also went to KIM for her debut feature film role.

The Pusan International Film Festival's organizing committee has announced the selection of 25 projects for its Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) 2009. Under three categories, Script Development, Post-Production, and Asian Network of Documentary(AND), ACF will support 10 Korean and 15 Asian projects.
ACF also announced the launch of 2 new funds which take effect in 2010. The first is the Overseas Korean Project Fund which is designed to assist Korean filmmakers residing abroad. KO Young-jae, CEO of Studio Nurimbo, which produced the hit documentary "Our School", initiated the fund. A total of US $83,000 will be made available.
Also added from next year is the AND Distribution Support fund, created by LEE Chung-ryoul, the star director of "Old Partner". His endowment of $83,000 will be used to to provide distribution aid to 1 Korean film and also to support acquisition of local distribution rights for 2 Asian films.

Korean films have been gaining global attention overseas for the past few years, winning notable prizes in world-class film festivals in Cannes, Venice and other cities. Make the best of your stay in Korea with the 1st KAFA Film Debut Program scheduled for this coming weekend.
From May 8 to 10, Mirospace, a movie theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul, will screen four recently released Korean independent feature films with English subtitles.
"The Room Nearby" by director Goh Tae-jeong depicts an encounter between a woman who needs her space and a woman who is afraid of such space.
"The Day After" by director Lee Suk-gyung is about a woman who encounters a fine day after a stormy divorce.
"The Story of Mr. Sorry" by director Kwak In-keun tells an interesting tale of a man whose career is wiping out other people's earwax. "Members of the Funeral" by director Baek Seung-bin depicts a family that has fallen apart.
