Armadas of middle-aged Japanese women no longer chase Bae Yong-joon, the biggest star the Korean wave of the early millennium produced; instead, more and more Korean fans are now dying for a glimpse of their favorite Japanese stars. In Korea, some of the so-called J-drama maniacs watch Japanese soaps all night long, and the growing popularity of Japanese novels here already outstrips any enthusiasm for Korean writing.

Obviously pleased with the reversal of fortunes, a Japanese movie magazine hailed the Japanese boom in Korea, saying, "While the Korean wave is on the wane, the Japanese wave is waxing". Many critics agree that while Korean Wave is receding, Japanese culture has been slowly assimilated into the mainstream of Korean culture and has firmly taken root there. Chuseok Events at Lotte Cinema

And finally with the weekend coming up, viewers can expect some fun and exciting new movies in theaters.
A comedy about a kidnapping: another comedy about men who escape their dull life and the final in an action series about a CIA agent's journey to find his identity are this week's stories.
Kim Minjung has more.
This week we have a mixture of comedies and a thriller showing on the nation's screens.
First we have the Korean movie "Mission Possible: Kidnapping Granny K", where three men kidnap a grandma who owns a popular restaurant in the neighborhood.
A jobless bum and two downtrodden souls kidnap Granny K, hoping to make some money.
But Granny K turns out not to be the laid back, weak woman they expected.
Next up is "The Happy Life", a story of three friends who rediscover their passion when a beloved friend passes away.
The trio look back on their youthful days when they all played in a band.
Sending off a friend so suddenly awakens their passion for music.

Korean films line up for Chuseok holiday

The summer season has been dominated by Hollywood blockbusters, but a wide collection of Korean films are lining up for a release during the Chuseok holiday in September.

The holiday, which will effectively last from September 22 to 26, is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year at the local box office. With many big hits having been launched during Chuseok in past years, attention is focusing on which of this year's films may have the potential to break out.

Local distributors CJ Entertainment, Lotte Entertainment, Showbox, and Cinema Service have each lined up a film for release, while Hollywood branch office Fox will also distribute one Korean title.

CJ's selection is "The Happy Life" by director LEE Joon-ik, who has acquired star status in Korea after box office smash "The King and the Clown" and word-of-mouth hit "Radio Star" in 2006.
