| Movie "Friend" into Drama… Who plays Jang Dong-gun and Yoo Oh-seong's roles? (Source) |
2008/04/03 |
It seems we will meet "Friend", which premiered in 2001 and drew 8 million viewers, on television.
The production company is planning to produce "Friend" as a drama, and director Kwak Kyung-taek will hold the megaphone once more. "Friend" drew a lot of popularity from the start, left many catchphrases, and allowed Jang Dong-gun to officially rise up in stardom.
Jang Dong-gun and Yoo Oh-seong starred with strong Pusan accents and captivated audiences with their acting. The drama will cast stars with other styles but the list, of course, includes top stars.
Who will be the actors who receive judgment for following in Jang Dong-gun and Yoo Oh-seong's footsteps?
We cannot exclude Jang Dong-gun, who has worked with Director Kwak Gyeong-tae in "Typhoon" and "Friend". However, it doesn't seem likely that Jang Dong-gun will star in the drama after starring in the movie.
Because many directors work with actors they've already worked with, there is a possibility of Joo Jin-mo, who... |More

| Gangsters in love and actors who diet create a comeback (Source) |
2007/09/19 |
Mainstream movie director Kwak Gyeong-taek, 41, is back on screen for the first time in two years with his new film, "A Love".
The title itself is a big surprise for many movie fans because Kwak isn't the kind who puts soppy love stories on screen. He is better known for directing aggressive and violent action films such as "Champion" (2002) and "Mutt Boy" (2003).
But once the film "A Love" gets going it's obvious there's more to the story than romance.
The storyline of A Love is similar to Kwak's record-breaking box office hit, "Friend" (2001), starring Jang Dong-gun. Characters in both films are aggressive and loyal and the script revolves around the life of gangsters who speak in rough Busan dialects -- The film takes place in Busan, where Kwak was born.
Kwak got the idea for the story while filming "Friend". It was the life story of one of the film's characters.
"He was the right-hand man of the gangster upon whom the movie was based", said Kwak. "Of course he's not involved i... |More

| 2006 Korea Film Festival Opens in London (Source) |
2006/09/20 |

The anime films include "Pororo to the Cookie Castle", "Shark Bait" and "Hammer boy".

| Korea's action man plans to scrub the grit off the screen (Source) |
2006/07/06 |
Jeong Woo-seong may be one of the most glamorous of Korean male stars, but in "Mutt Boy", he had to play a mentally disabled adult who strips down to his underwear for a bloody brawl. It was a hard sight for his fans, but it was positively wrenching for his action choreographer, Sin Jae-myeong.
Mr. Sin still winces at the mention of the scene. "Shooting that scene was the last straw. I thought I'd never do action scenes like that again, but oddly enough, it's become my trademark", he said. It's also become the trademark of Korean action films. Mr. Sin's style of action is often called "real action", implying hard-boiled street fighting and eschewing the fancy footwork seen in movies like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
With the comeback of Korean action films in the early 1990s, action sequences have kept getting grittier -- and bolder. The recent box office hit, "A Dirty Carnival", starring Jo In-seong, abandons smooth, elegant action scenes in favor of bare-knuckle fist fights an... |More
