Korean star Song Hye-kyo will star in director SON Soo-beom's feature film directorial debut Fetish. The film is a low-budget independent film project. SONG's role will be eighty percent in English. Arno Frisch (Funny Game) has also been cast in "Fetish".

SONG played in "My Girl and I" and last year's costume drama "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" which made her a star in Asia. She also starred in popular television dramas. SONG's representative said that the English language "Fetish" is hoped to be an opportunity for further global exposure for SONG.

SONG is yet another Korean actress/actor trying to make it in the US film market. JEON Ji-hyun, JANG Dong-gun, JANG Hyeok, among others are in the process of working on an English language Hollywood film. SONG opts for another inroad through an independent film.

Following Jang Dong-gun and Jeon Ji-hyeon, actress Song Hye-kyo will also make her U.S. screen debut. But instead of heading to Hollywood, the 25-year-old left for New York Nov. 21 to take part in a low-budget independent film project.

In the psychological thriller "Fetish", Song will play the role of a Korean woman with supernatural powers, who possesses an American woman's body in order to steal her husband. She will star opposite Austrian actor Arno Frisch, who is well known from the 1997 film "Funny Games".

Korean filmmaker Son Soo-peom will helm the project. The New York University graduate is the silver medallist of the 2002 Student Academy Awards and was invited to the Cannes Film Festival that same year for his short films. Sohn makes his feature film directorial debut with "Fetish".

Casting director Susan Shopmaker ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch", Michael Kang's "The Motel" and "West 32nd") took note of Song in her latest film "Hwangjin...

Released locally November 1st, Show East's cooking drama "Le Grand Chef" is drawing strong interest from buyers at the 2007 American Film Market, currently running Oct 31 – Nov 7 in LA. The film has been sold to Festive Films for Singapore and Taiwan, to Sundream for Hong Kong, to A.O.E. for Malaysia and to M Pictures for Thailand. Talks to take the film to China are also being negotiated.

Directed by JEON Yoon-soo, known previously for melodramas such as "My Girl And I" (2005) and "Besame Mucho" (2001), "Le Grand Chef" moves out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. The film is anticipated locally for its parallels with pan-Asian hit Korean TV drama "Jewel In the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum"), which had a palace cook as its chief character.

The film is based on a best-selling graphic novel by HEO Yeong-man, which also raises expectations for locals after the successful adaptation of another of HEO's novel's resulted in the 2006 hit "Tazza: The High Rollers" ("The War of Flower")....

The producers didn't like the old Song. She was a top star but she still had that cute image.

Song Hye-kyo doesn't want to hear any more about Jeon Ji-hyeon.
Make that Song's recent "off-the-record" comment about an old candidate list for the upcoming film "Hwangjin-y". Producers for the film had named several top Korean beauties for the role of the legendary gisaeng (courtesan) and Song and the long-legged sex icon Jun were included on the list.
"I think Song heard about [herself] being compared to Jun a lot even after she got the role and while she was working on Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007", said Lee Choon-yeon, the head of Cine 2000, the producer of the film, speaking earlier this month. "That really pushed her [to work harder]".
Song was never on his mind when he and fellow producers started out the search for the most famous (and coquettish) Joseon Dynasty woman who entertained noblemen with her talents to easily master classic literature, dance, music and conversation. ...

The South Korean period drama "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" is allowed to film in North Korea. SONG Hye-kyo plays the titular character, the most renowned courtesan from Korea's Chosun Dynasty who lived in an area presently part of North Korea. The adaptation from the similar titled novel by the North Korean writer HONG Seok-jung is directed by JANG Yoon-hyeon, who sucessfully debuted with "The Contact" (1997).

Filming will take place in the Diamond Mountains for the duration of a week and will commence on January 28. Filming has been mostly completed and the remaining scenes are the ones scheduled for North Korea. The production companies CINE2000 and SIZ entertainment were not granted permission to shoot at Kaesong and Daedong River, the original locations of the novel and where HWANG Jin Yi used to live for most of her live.
