The futures of many child stars were generally depressing.

The childish image and the weight of the years were obstacles for child stars to become adult actors.

But even among them, there are stars who have succeeded in transforming into adults. The IS Entertainment Team has picked out the best 5 actors who started out as child stars.

The first is the heroine of "New Heart", Kim Min-jeong.

Kim Min-jeong, who's charm comes from her big eyes, debuted in 1990 when she was eight, with MBC Best Theater "Widow". In 1992, she received the 'Child Actor Award' from KBS, received the 'Youth Award' in 1998, and received much love for her smart acting. Her official change to adult acting came in 2005 with the drama "Fashion 70s" and in 2006 with the movie "Forbidden Quest".

Especially in "Forbidden Quest", she had a daring exposure scene, and fully separated from her innocent, childish image.

The second is Moon Geun-yeong, who is transforming from the nation's younger sister to e...

Actress Moon Geun-yeong has donated close to 100 million to Morning Reading, a non-profit organization that promotes reading books.

The 20-year-old gave 4.3 million won in 2005, 4 million won in 2006 and 70 million won last year. The popular star of TV drama "Autumn in my Heart" made the contributions secretly through her mother, Ryu Seon-young, but her good deeds became known when Morning Reading revealed its 2007 account information online.

Founded in 2005, Morning Reading encourages elementary, middle and high school students to read books. Moon became acquainted with the organization when Ryu first bequeathed 1 million won, and has since helped whenever there were budget constraints, said the organization, according to Yonhap News.

"When we first received the gift, we thought it was a mistake because it was too much. Later Ryu introduced herself as a librarian at the national library", Han Sang-su, head of Morning Reading, was quoted as s...
Popular Korean actor KIM Rae-won, 26, is set to seduce Japanese audiences this Spring with his lead role in Japanese director Hayato Kawai's Flower Shadow, a romantic drama of international love.

Actor KIM is a familiar heartthrob in Korea, starring in comedies such as "Mister Socrates" (2005) and "My Little Bride" (2004) as well as hit TV series "Cat on the Roof" (2003) and the upcoming series "The Grand Chef" ('Sikgaek').

In Flower Shadow he plays an elementary school teacher who falls in love with a Korean-Japanese jewelry designer played by Mirai Yamamoto. Set in both Korea and Japan, the film also features main theme music by Korean R&B trio SG Wanne Be.

The film is the second to feature a Korean-Japanese romance theme with a Hallyu male lead, following last year's "Virgin Snow", starring LEE Joon-ki. The film is slated for release in Japan March 8.

Most Korean dramas start airing after the shooting of first a few episodes. Thus the general practice has been that production gets busier and busier, with the dramas eventually rushing to the end with obviously lower quality than before.

A blockbuster hit from last year, "Taewangsasingi" ("The Legend", The Four Guardian Gods of the King) was not an exception. Despite 43 billion won ($46 million) budget and three years of preparation, the drama did not have enough time to shoot and edit 24 episodes. One time, an episode had been edited just after the designated airing time, and MBC, the broadcasting station, had to extend their live news to fill up time cut from the production.

The "one-page script" exists in Korean soap-opera making. The whole script for one episode is not produced at the same time. The actors stand ready for shooting a scene without knowing what they are going to film and just one page of the script is sent from the writer. Th...

Actress Moon Geun-yeong, 21, will return to the television screen with the epic drama "The Painter of Wind".

Returning to TV screens after five years, she will play the lead role of Sin Yun-bok, a painter who disguises herself as a man. Sin Yun-bok is a painter who lived during the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910) and was known for realistic and delicate depictions of daily life.

The painter was known as a male, but a fictional historical novel "The Painter of Wind", written by Lee Jung-myeong and published in 2007, raised the question of whether Sin might be a woman dressed as a man.

"When I first read the novel, I just thought it was a story about the genius painters Kim Hong-do and Sin Yun-bok. However, I realized that there might be more secrets hidden in the drawings and I couldn't put the book down", Moon said in a press release.

The drama will explore the life of this genius artist and mysteries hidden in the paintings. Other characters, ...

My Little Bride - enjoyably light by Rogue

S
etting off the premise that a 15-year old IS allowed to get married so long as the parents consent, I now therefore give my review on the Korean movie My Little Bride, and put all talks of legality to rest.

The movie is basically about the love, or hate, story between a 15-year old high school girl who's forced to marry her childhood friend six years her senior to fulfill her sick grandpa's wishes. The fun starts here, both for the actors and the viewers. One gets the feeling that the characters are merely playing house. And that feeling is fuelled by the fact that the actors show a natural closeness. Either that, or they're just really good actors, being able to perfectly deliver just the right amount of fun and closeness on screen.

Less we forget that the movie belongs to the romcom genre, the romance aspect of the story was not at all underplayed. There were hints of attraction between the characters, and they were piled up just right to give an effective heart-tickling ending.

The simplicity of the movie's conflict is its biggest advantage. What do you do with a 15-year old bride who, well, thinks and acts like a 15-year old? None of those heart-wrenching dramas (thank goodness) that would probably destroy the whole movie; instead, the movie presents a reasonable and realistic conflict that will give you an 'aww, shucks' feeling in the end.

I think it would have been better if the movie was a narrative, made in such a wasy as to show the husband's point of view - kind of giving justice to the title MY Little Bride. But narration or no narration, the movie delivered.

8 kimchi dishes out of 10.
