The 11th Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Opens in Seoul

After the initial festival was closed down by police in 1997, the Seoul Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Film Festival (SELFF) celebrated more than 10 years of existence opening on Wednesday the 3rd of June. However, the festival which was then deemed as 'objectionable' by authorities has still faced unabated challenges. This year, due to the financial crisis its already meager budget has been severely cut back. Despite this, organizers at the opening party in a cozy bar in Seoul's Jongno district emphasized the quality of the relatively small numbers of films on show.

Even with diminished funds, the festival has been able to secure films from all over the globe including Japan, Germany, Taiwan, the U.S., Spain, France, Thailand, Norway, Mexico, Australia and Israel. It also includes a number of Korean premieres. Seven youths who had been worked based on 'Youths of Movie Producing Workshop' got 10th year. 'Youths Film', which has been consisted of producers, planners, and prospective producers, will be co-operative with The Korea Association of Cinematheques to make 10th anniversary film festival from 5th to 14th. It has been planned to look back the way they had gone through for 10 years and to make a promise that they would be remained as youths in 10 years after.

You can meet ten of films like 'Happy End', 'Jealousy Is My Middle Name', 'So Cute', and 'No Regret' which have been produced by Youths Film and producers who are working for the company. Also there is a section made by current short films of young producers in 'Youths Meet Youths'. There will be a meeting between audiences and actors, actresses, and producers.

Generation Blue Films holds 10th anniversary festival

Generation Blue Films, a small production house founded in 1998 with the goal of producing films in a manner different from the mainstream commercial system, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with a special film festival.

Over the years, the company has helped to introduce many important new directors and has provided an environment where filmmakers can feel free to experiment.

To be held at the Seoul Art Cinema near the south end of Insa-dong, the festival will feature 16 short films and 10 feature films that were produced or coproduced by Generation Blue Films. It is scheduled to run from December 5 to 14.

Films to be screened, which include a broad range of independent and commercial works, include "Happy End" (1999), "Wanee and Junah" (2001), "Jealousy Is My Middle Name" (2003), "So Cute" (2004), "Red Shoes" (2005), "The Sex Film" (2006), "Boys of Tomorrow" (2006), "Old Miss Diary - Movie" (2006), "No Regret" (2006), and "Milky Way Liberation Front" (2007).

Kong Soo-chang's follow-up to "R-Point" is a disappointment

There are hundreds of guide posts (GPs) along the length of the North-South Korean border. South and North Korean troops stationed at them are at a constant state of alert, with heavy artillery pointed at one another. These installations, a cross between a military depot and an underground bunker, are almost self-contained worlds.

One of them, GP 506, has stopped sending messages to headquarters. An experienced MP investigator Sergeant Noh (Cheon Ho-jin, "A Dirty Carnival") and a cynical medical officer (Lee Jeong-heon, "Humming", "Silmido") are sent to find out what happened. They find the troops literally drawn and quartered: the video evidence indicates the murders were committed by Private Kang (Lee Yeong-hoon, "No Regret"), a resident clown and the least likely candidate for going postal.
