In the midst of sighs that there are no more females in leading roles, Ha Ji-won will challenge this.

Ha Ji-won will start filming "Seven Remedies" in New Zealand in June and will be coming back from a one-year hiatus.

After "Miracle on 1st Street" last February, she only appeared in cameos in "Last Present" and "Sex is Zero 2". Now, she will be spending the summer with "Seven Remedies".

"Seven Remedies" is about a monster that is transformed through viruses and a female character who tries to fight it.

It's drawing more attention because there are few movies with female lead roles, and those few fail to succeed. Most movies have male leads, but this one has put a female in the lead.

A representative of the production company said, "Ha Ji-won will be showing action like Angelina Jolie in 'Tomb Raider". Her fighting scene with the monster will be the highlight". He said that she received the lead role because of confidence in her.

Actors Go to Nepal for Volunteer Work

Actors Choi Soo-jong, 46, and Shin-ee, 30, are volunteering to work in Nepal from Jan. 14 to 19.

The two actors will visit "Sangla Children's Home", which is sponsored by the international relief agency, Good Neighbors office in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The two will help the children bathe, play soccer, do face-painting as well as plant a tree of hope. They will also visit another home, "Badikhel Children's Home".

Choi, who is the goodwill ambassador for Good Neighbors, said "I know there are the needy in Korea too, but I decided to take part in this volunteer service because I want to give strength to the children suffering from absolute poverty".

He added that he will volunteer more in the future so that volunteering becomes the norm, not a small part of his life.

Two Korean Movies & A Hollywood Blockbuster

Time now for our weekly list of movies premiering in the cinemas.
Will Smith stars in a Hollywood blockbuster and a Korean romantic comedy shows new dimensions of two well-known actors.
Also on our list is a Korean-version of the "American Pie" trilogy.

First is an action flick from Hollywood.
Will Smith plays the last human survivor of a terrible and incurable virus.
The manmade virus turns people into carnivores who exist only in the dark and devour or infect anyone or anything in their path.
He spends years scavenging for food and supplies and sends out radio messages in the hope of contacting other survivors.
The film is about his struggles to reverse the effects of the virus by using his own immune: blood.

The next movie is getting much media attention around the country.

"Sex is Zero 2" Loses Its Edge

While the "American Pie" trilogy cooked up a stir in the United States, Korea had its own version of a witlessly wholesome sex comedy, "Sex is Zero" (2002). It's always hard for sequels to live up to the glory of their predecessor, but such biting reality hit "Sex is Zero 2" especially hard ― slapping the tasteless college story in the face over and over again.

In "Zero 2", the popular actors from the first installment reconvene and the narrative elements are tweaked here and there. Good-hearted Eun-sik (Im Chang-jeong) is a law student who, driven by his hormones, is more preoccupied with checking out miniskirt-clad legs in the library than preparing for the state exam.

Eun-sik seems doomed with bad luck, with unfortunate timing always labeling the innocent guy as a pervert. But mysterious workings of the universe give him one blessing. His longtime girlfriend is none other than the most popular girl on campus, the sweet and beautiful swim...| More

'Sex is Zero 2' sticks to toilet and bawdy humor

Sex comedy is not a familiar genre with Korean audiences, many of whom regard themselves as somewhat conservative, or deadly super-duper conservative. But "Sex is Zero", released in 2002, changed that conventional wisdom.

The toilet-humor-filled sex-or-die comedy pulled in a respectable 4.2 million viewers in 2002 and even ranked fourth at the box-office for the year. Since then, a handful of imitations have come out, but none of them have hit a jackpot -- yet.

All of this has apparently encouraged the production house which made the original "Sex is Zero" to forge ahead with a sequel. The logic, of course, is that people remembering the unabashed sex comedy will return to the theater, and, for the filmmakers of "Sex is Zero 2", there seems to be nothing wrong with repeating the same formula -- plot, characters, sex-oriented scenes, and all that -- as long as a minimum box-office return is guaranteed.
