Jung Seung-hye, the head of movie production company Achim and a famed copywriter, died Sunday from colon cancer. She was 44.
Jung has been suffering from the illness since 2006 and was hospitalized last month after her condition worsened.
"She struggled against the disease, but as the cancer spread to her lungs, her condition got worse", said Lee Joon-ik, director of the hit movie "The King and the Clown" (2005) and Jung's friend of 20 years.
Jung started working in the movie marketing business in 1989 at film company Shin Cine with the film "Happiness Does Not Come From Grades".
She moved to Lee's Cine World and produced numerous films including "The Spy" (1999), "Anarchists" (2000) and "HwangSanBul" (2003).
When the film "The King and the Clown" hit the mark with more than 10 million viewers, she flew solo with her own company Achim in 2005 and continued to produce popular films including "Radio Star" (2006) "Shadows in the Palace (... |More

Debutant director Park Dae-min brings a delicious mix of drama, comedy and adventure in "Private Eye", which, moreover, paints rosy prospects for South Korean cinema as it signals the potential of homegrown detective films.
Set against the Japanese colonial period (1910-45), the movie invites viewers to hop on coolie-drawn carts and join an accidental Sherlock Holmes (Hwang Jeong-min) in tracking down a serial killer on the loose.
If 2007's "Shadows in the Palace" hinted at the possibility for an Agatha Christie-style suspense, "Private Eye" promises something more solid, and perhaps even a serial franchise. It keeps things smart and intriguing rather than mind boggling or cryptic, and leads the audience half a step ahead in the cat and mouse game. The movie also manages to be entertaining without being too light as it gives birth to a detective with character.

PARK Jin-hee returns to cinemas in December with the romantic comedy "Lost and Found". She spins a web of white lies when she meets the man she's been in love with since high school who doesn't remember her.
PARK's character is sharing a house with two younger men who also attended the same high school; one of them is played by JO Han-seon who is secretly in love with PARK's character. He will start his own lies to keep her away from the other man.
"Lost and Found" is directed by JEONG Jeong-hwa. PARK was praised for her latest performance in KIM Mi-jung's "Shadows in the Palace".
