Who will be the next generation of the Korean-Waves stars?

Recently, 'Yon-sama' Bae Yong-joon's "The Legend" is expecting revive the glory of the Korean-Waves once again, which seemed to gradually cool down last few years. In addition, the expectation for the new generation of the Korean-Waves stars is increasing.

On 5th, the Sankei newspaper reported that "Hyeon Bin, Joo Ji-hoon and Sin Dong-wook had been making frequent visits to Japan. It is interesting to see which of these stars will maintain their popularity as a Korean-Wave star in 10 years time".

The newspaper said, "The first Korean actor to gain such a huge popularity among the Asian countries is Ahn Jae-wook from "Star in my Heart" in 1997". Ahn Jae-Wook, 35, one of the most popular Korean entertainers in China, will embark on a concert tour of four Japanese cities in June.

According to Motis, Ahn's agency based in Seoul, the singer and actor who was at the forefront of the Korean Wave back in the late 90's will begin the tour entitled "First Traveling" in Yokohama on June 22. The tour will then take him to Sapporo on June 24, North Kyushu on June 26 and Nagoya on June 28.

The star of such hit television dramas as "Star in My Heart" and "Mr. Good-Bye" made his first Japanese stage appearance in March 2006. During the upcoming concerts co-hosted by Motis and his Japanese agency IMX, Ahn will sing his hit songs from his five regular albums, as well as theme songs of television dramas he acted in. ...

The festive atmosphere has been growing in Jeju, where tourists from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan have been crowding the island's resorts every weekend to see their favorite hallyu (Korean cultural wave) stars.
The island has been hosting the Hallyu Expo, which has featured a variety of celebrity-filled events for over two months now, making it the longest-running hallyu festival to take place in Korea. The event was heavily marketed in foreign countries. The excitement was at its peak the previous weekend, which featured actors such as Ahn Jae-wook, Kim Rae-won and Lee Dong-gun, all of whom enjoyed wild greetings from the thousands of female fans who followed them around.
On Sunday, hundreds of tourists queued to see Mr. Ahn, the star of the television drama "Star in My Heart", which put him in the major league of hallyu celebrities. He also sang the title song for that drama. Over 700,000 copies of the original soundtrack album were sold outside of Korea.

Cheju Island is the place to be this month for fans of Korea's top hallyu stars. Five of Korea's biggest male stars are scheduled to meet their fans in the southern island, as part of the Hallyu Expo.

K-pop star Se7en and top actors Lee Joon-ki, Ahn Jae-wook, Kim Rae-won and Lee Dong-gun will hold fan meetings in Tamna Hall at the Jeju International Convention Center starting Jan. 21.

The fan meetings are part of the first-ever Hallyu Expo, which began on Nov. 29 and runs until March 10. The expo is aimed at promoting hallyu or the Korean wave in Asia, especially with Korean dramas, movies, music, games and stars. It is expected to attract as many as 150,000 visitors during the 100-day period.

Korean actor Ahn Jae-wook will appear in a magazine ad for U.S.-based Ford Motor Company.

Ahn's representatives at Motis (Ahn's management company) said that he will appear in ads for Ford's new "Edge" automobile. Through the online, printed, and television media, the advertisements will appear in targeted markets throughout the United States.

According to Motis, the ad, featuring Ahn, will appear on three magazines. He will also appear on a number of online and TV advertisements.

The Motis representative said, "Ahn's right of publicity on his images published on magazines and on online ad will be valid for six months; and, twelve months for his voice used in online and TV ads".

The official added, "Ford's selection of Ahn as its advertising spokesperson is a result of the car company's recognition of the 'Hallyu' actor's high marketability".

The term "Hallyu" literally means "Korean wave". The term was coined by a Chinese newspaper to describe the influx of Korean movie...
