Writer/director KONG Soo-chang's latest film "The Guard Post" (GP506) opens on April 3. Like his previously directed film R-point, the film is a horror film situated in the military. This time the setting is the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea.

JO Hyeon-jae and CHEON Ho-jin star in the horror film about a mysterious slaughtering at guard post 506 and the investigating team who gets trapped at the same guard post due to worsening weather. CHEON Ho-jin played in director YOO Ha's crime film "A Dirty Carnival" (Biyeorhan Geori) and alongside JEON Ji-hyeon in "Daisy". JO Hyeon-jae starred in "Untold Scandal" (Scandal).

KONG initially worked as a scenario writer. He wrote the scenario for the JANG Yoon-hyeon directed thriller "Tell Me Something" starring HAN Seok-kyu. He debuted as a director with "R-point" which unfolds in Cambodia where a Korean military unit is dispatched during the Vietnam War.

Song Hye-kyo's Hwangjini was majestic. During a time where social rank determined all, she ridiculed society amidst falling from the top to lowest of classes, delightfully stripped off the falsehood of intellect, and held only one man in her heart.

The movie 'Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007' meets audiences on the 6th. With a total production budget of 10 billion KRW, Director Jang Yoon-yeon of the movies 'The Contact' and 'Tell Me Something' holding the megaphone, and renown staff within the film industry, and especially Song Hye-kyo who plays the role of 'Hwangjini' provide plenty of reason to look forward to the opening.

Despite the frequent questioning of the similarities in character with the drama version, 'Hwangjin-y' starring Ha Ji-Won, she most likely felt that she was being asked less of them once the movie was premiered. Seeing the movie clearly shows the differences from the drama series.

The big-budget period drama "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" has received a special screening in North Korea ahead of its local release.

The film, which is based on the life of Korea's most famous gisaeng (the Korean equivalent to the Japanese "geisha"), is adapted from a famous novel by North Korean author Hong Seok-jung.

As the novel references several famous sites in what is now North Korea, the filmmakers made a special effort to shoot the film's final segment at the Geumgang ("Diamond") Mountain resort area in the North. The Geumgang complex is the one part of North Korea that is freely open to tourists from the South, following its development as a tourist complex in 2000. "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" is the second Korean film to shoot in the complex, following comedy "A Bold Family" ("Super Family") in 2005.

The screening was held in the Geumgang complex for South Korean tourists and employees of the Hyundai Asan company that operates the tours. A total of 6000 people ...

Hwang Jin-i, a high-profile female entertainer in the 16th century, provides a continuous stream of inspirations for Korean novelists, drama producers and filmmakers. Although historical facts about her life are sketchy at best, the Korean entertainment industry is rushing to exploit her colorful life.

"Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007", directed by Jang Yoon-hyeon ("The Contact", "Tell Me Something"), is part of the trend that supposedly revisits the historical figure known for her salient artistic talent and provocative encounters with the yangban aristocrats, including a secret seduction scheme that destroyed a respectable monk.

There are only several poems attributed to Hwang, but the creative imagery and refined style suggest that she was a top-rated poet, though her primary role was to serve the upper class mostly at banquets by singing and dancing. Hwang is believed to be a figure who lived during the reign of King Jungjong (1506-1544), but no historical documents are available.

"Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" delivers a novel interpretation of one of the most celebrated women in the Joseon Kingdom era (1392-1910), but shines just dimly on the silver screen. The shortcomings of the highly anticipated film regrettably eclipse its unique plot, all-star cast and crew, and grand-scale production.

The film traces the life of Hwang Jin Yi, a 16th century gisaeng - a female entertainer-artist similar to the Japanese geisha - remembered as both a distinguished poet and alluring femme fatale.

Born into a respected noble family, the charming Hwang leads a peaceful life in the city of Songdo. But when her scandalous birth secrets are revealed, she voluntarily chooses the lowly life of a gisaeng.

Hwang, brought to life by Song Hye-kyo, evolves from an innocent damsel to smoldering temptress. Song gives an impressive performance of her character's winding emotional journey, and breaks away from her image as a sweet-faced starlet.
