Actor Kim Works to Enjoy His Calling

"Enjoy One's Calling" is the phrase written on actor Kim Kang-woo's cell phone. "Talented people cannot beat people who know how to enjoy life. I went through hard times when I first started acting. But one day, I realized I was doing something I wanted to do and earning money for it. The point is to take pleasure in what I do ― acting", Kim said in an interview with The Korea Times at a cafe in Samcheong-dong in Seoul, Monday.

Kim, 29, debuted through "The Coast Guard" (2002), directed by Kim Ki-duk, when he was a senior at Chung-Ang University. "The only role I could get without any acting experience was a soldier", said Kim.

He was then noticed when he played Mu-cheol in the MBC drama "Breathless - Drama" (2003) and starred in SBS's "Three Leafed Clover" (2005). Kim has been known as "Mr. Right" since then for the honest and diligent characters he played. "It's funny. I didn't know that I had that kind of sincere image in me", he said.

Who would refuse to look beautiful if it could easily be done? All it takes, after all, is a knife, a talented doctor and a wad of cash.
Apparently, not many would refuse, particularly in Korea, where it's a badge of honor to be counted as an eoljjang ("face king", a person with a great face) or a momjjang ("body king").
A recent survey conducted by the movie magazine Movie Week found that 71 percent of its respondents said they would have plastic surgery if they could afford it. The magazine said its survey showed that plastic surgery was no longer just for celebrities, a point that would surprise few people here.
Chungmuro, the street in Seoul that houses Korea's biggest filmmakers and one of the most sensitive places to social changes in the country, didn't need a survey to know that plastic surgery is a big issue. Sin Min-ah cast in new Kwak Jae-yong film

Korean actress Sin Min-ah, well known for her roles in films such as "A Bittersweet Life" and "The Beast and the Beauty", will appear in an upcoming feature by "My Sassy Girl "director Kwak Jae-yong.

The film, with the Korean title Murim-yeodaesaeng ("My Mighty Princess"), centers around a female university student with a strong talent for martial arts. Shin will be returning to the action genre following her debut in the fusion martial arts film Volcano High, and her role as a boxer in the TV drama Punch.

Starring together with Sin will be On Joo-wan, who won widespread praise for his leading role in the film The Peter Pan Formula, and relative newcomer Yoo Geon.

To be produced by new production company Podo Film and distributed by Prime Entertainment, the film is scheduled to open shooting in April.

'Brothers Grimm' Rules Box Office

"The Brothers Grimm" ruled the box office last weekend with 340,769 going to see the Matt Damon fantasy film.

In second place was the domestic martial arts epic "Shadowless Sword" with 280,000 tickets sold.

Third was Jodie Foster's thriller "Flight Plan", followed by the domestic crime drama "Mister Socrates" and the romantic comedy "The Beast and the Beauty".

"Welcome To Dongmakgol" to be contracted 2 million dollar with Japan at AFM

The best box-office film of 2005 "Welcome To Dongmakgol" was sold in 2 million dollar of minimum garantee by Japanese publisher Nikkatsu Corporation during American Film Market.

Nikkatsu Corp was founded in 1912 and is charge of producing and distributing of movie & video as well as managing theater & studio, which is one of major film company of long history and tradition with "Shochiku".

Nikkatsu was not up abd coming in buying and distributing Korean movies only focusing on video & DVD distribution up to now, however, it is willing to arouse Japanese' sympathy with the in-depth and emotional sense of "Welcome To Dongmakgol".

The foreign distributors have hesitated to buy it because of the weak points like "Star absense" and "Korean War", therefore, this contract is meaningful. The movie will be distributed in Japan early next year.
