MBC's new weekend drama "Bittersweet Life" will debut tomorrow. Following on the heels of the romantic comedy "Last Scandal", this 24-episode miniseries plans to capitalize on a winning plotline: Young man falls for older woman.

Actress Oh Yeon-soo, who starred in the popular MBC drama "Jumong" (2006), will be playing the older woman. Actor Lee Dong-wook, who won women over in the romantic comedy "The Perfect Couple" ("The Best Romance", 2007) and the hit SBS drama "My Girl" (2005), will be her young lover.

In anticipation of the forthcoming drama, one domestic viewer wrote on the drama's official bulletin board, "I am so sad that 'Last Scandal' is over. I have not seen the new drama yet, so I cannot say much about it. But I hope that it is not sad like 'Winter Bird'."

Having to sit through two hours of "The Best Romance" is a vivid reminder that a job as a movie reviewer is not always fun, and in fact, can test one's patience. This reviewer even felt proud for not giving up on watching the film halfway through its cruel 109-minute running time. No wonder critics for a movie magazine overwhelmingly gave the film a thumbs down when it debuted in theaters earlier this year. Plus, it flopped at the box office ? proof there is a God.
So here is a review meant to save our dear readers from accidentally picking up this film, recently released as a DVD, at a neighborhood rental shop.

Korean films dominated the box office in February, led by Park Jin-pyo's kidnapping drama "Voice of Murderer" that sold 3.1 million tickets, the major multiplex cinema operator CGV said. Six films in the top 10 box office rankings were Korean.

"Voice of Murderer" appealed to local audiences by laying bare the painful experience of the parents who lost their son to a kidnapper, a story based on a real incident in which the real culprit is still at large.

On the ticket sales chart, the No. 2 slot went to "Miracle on 1st Street", with 1.9 million viewers. Other Korean films which made it to the top 10 list were "A Good Day to Have an Affair" (1.74 million), "Highway Star" (1.23 million), "Three Kims" (1 million) and "The Best Romance" (610,000).

The combined share of ticket sales by Korean films reached 67.4 percent last month, slightly up from January but still lower than the 68.9 percent recorded a year earlier.

The stars of actresses are shining brighter than those of their male counterparts in local films.

It's not only their physical beauty, but also the range of different characters they play that have been attracting moviegoers and better box office results.

Obviously, the movie-going audience now wants to have more choice than the gangster films, which male actors tend to dominate. But also, actresses have proved they are not just the pretty girlfriend of a leading male character any more.
