How crazy is it to wait 730 days for a lover?
A recently released Korean DVD, "Crazy Waiting" ("The Longest 24 Months" - Gidarida michyeo) portrays the painful separation period that young Korean couples endure due to the mandatory military service imposed on men here.
For patient people, 730 days might not seem that long, but it can be an eternity for young lovers.
As one of the last divided countries in the world, Korea sends its young, healthy men in their early 20s — typically the prime of their lives — into the military. The length of the service is generally two years but varies slightly depending on the armed branch.
In this film, four couples have to go through tearful goodbyes. It's sad for the guys, but even more heartbreaking for the girls, who must send their loved ones to some countryside training camp where they don't even have a decent heater.
After the initial, emotion-ridden phase, however, the girls' worries about their boyfriends soon dissipate into a tidal wave...

Danny Ahn, former member of pop group g.o.d., will continue to show his theatrical streak in a second stage performance. The 29-year-old is currently appearing in his play debut "Closer" and will star in the musical "Nasaengmun" next Month, production company Showplay announced Thursday.

When the Park Jin-young (aka. JYP)-produced boy band disbanded several years ago, the five members have pursued individual careers in the entertainment business.

Ahn crossed over to acting, starring in the romantic comedy movie "The Longest 24 Months" opposite popular actors Son Tae-yeong and Jang Geun-seok.

Last month, he appeared onstage for the first time through "Closer", and he will mix in his singing skills for the upcoming musical. Inspired by a short story by Japanese writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa, "Nasaengmun" premiered in Korea in 2003. It is about the conflicting testimonies by different characters on the same event.

There is an untimely shortage of actresses.

This year, the big successes have been movies about males, including "The Devil's Game", "The Chaser", and "Fate". Also, most upcoming movies, such as "The Guard Post", "Eye for Eye, Tooth for Tooth", "The Good, The Bad, The Weird", and "Shin gi Jun", do not have many actresses.

Having debuted on screen with film "The Longest 24 Months", former idol group g.o.d. member Danny Ahn is trying his hands at stage acting this time with a role in "Closer". Patrick Marber's most renowned work is about human relationship and communication as projected in the love and friendship of four men and women. The play has debuted in 1997, and has been translated in 30 different languages and performed in 100 cities worldwide.

Danny Ahn will play the role of obituary writer Dae-hyun, who loves two women at the same time. His character is very romantic, but also quite selfish in that he does not want to be the one getting hurt in a relationship. Ahn says it will take all his acting capacity to convincingly portray the complex emotional state of Dae-hyun.

As more Korean soap operas are sold abroad, hallyu, or the Korean wave, is now spreading beyond Asia to European countries as well. In particular, Korean epic dramas are gaining popularity around the world.

MBC's "Jewel in the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum") started airing on TRT-TV, a government-run broadcasting station in Turkey, Jan 14.

As the first Korean drama to be aired in Turkey, "Dae Jang Geum" will also be broadcast in Hungary in mid February. Other Eastern European countries, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Macedonia, have also signed contracts with MBC to screen "Dae Jang Geum" later this year.

"Dae Jang Geum" is one of the most prominent dramas leading the hallyu wave. The drama stars Lee Young-ae as Jang-geum, a woman who became the first female royal doctor to King Jungjong during the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910).
