2008/03/10 |
The nation will begin searching for the remains of Korean independence activist An Jung-geun this month.
After assassinating Japan's Prime Minister Hirobumi Ito in 1909, An was sentenced to death by Japanese authorities. He was executed on March 26th, 1910 in the Chinese city of Lushunkou, which was then known as Ryojun.
An official at the South Korean Embassy in Beijing said excavation work will begin near the Ryojun prison.
He added that apartment construction has been halted near the site and that excavation will take two to three months.
As China has expressed willingness to cooperate, the two Koreas are likely to discuss a joint excavation of the Korean freedom fighter's remains.

| Film actor Yoo Oh-seong returns to drama stage through 'Tape' (Source) |
2005/07/19 |
"I've never seen my theater is crowded with reporters like this", said Choi Hyeong-in, president of Hanyang Repertoire Theater, last week. Some 100 reporters from local newspapers, broadcasters and cable TVs filled the seats.
It was indeed unusual for a drama to attract such strong media spotlight. But it was also understandable that people noticed "Tape", to be staged from July 22 to Aug. 18 at Jayu Theater of Seoul Arts Center. The reason: Yoo Oh-seong, one of Korea's top-rated movie actors, plays the main character.
And there is another, more important reason. The latest movies You starred in - "Star" and " Thomas Ahn Jung-geun " - performed poorly in the box office, and the media is wondering why he is suddenly jumping into the drama stage where actors are usually underpaid and public interest is scarce at best.
"It doesn't matter whether I play for drama, TV or movie. And I've never thought I'm away from the drama stage in my acting career", Yoo told reporters. You made... |More

BoA's promotion of the film "Thomas Ahn Jung-geun" has brought about a sensitive reaction in Japan.
Nikkan Sports, a major Japanese sports paper, in a Friday article entitled, "BoA Does PR in Korea for Movie on Ito Hirobumi's Assassin", said the 17-year-old BoA was doing promotion work for the film "Thomas Ahn Jung-geun", which tells the story of Ahn's assassination of former Japanese statesman Ito Hirobumi in Harbin, China, quoting a Wednesday piece ran on Chosun.com. The film debuts Friday.
The Nikkan said BoA, along with the group Dongbang-shingi held a special preview of the film at Seoul Theater and planned to contribute W50 million (Y5 million) to an association commemorating Ahn. The association receiving the donation is giving BoA a letter of thanks and honorary membership, the paper reported.
The article referred to Ahn as an assassin, and this would suggest that BoA's promotion of the movie and her sizable donation would not be taken well in Japan.
