Internationally acclaimed director HONG Sang-soo will partake in Jeonju International Film Festival's (JIFF) annual program Digital short films by three filmmakers. HONG finished filming his digital short film on November 12 and he is in the post-production stage, according to JIFF. HONG's short film is titled Cheobcheobsanjoong (English translation: "deep in the mountains") and stars LEE Seon-gyoon ("A Cruel Attendance"), MOON Seong-geun ("A Petal"), and Jeong Yu-mi ("The Room Nearby"). HONG worked with MOON on "Virgin Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors" and "Woman on the Beach"; collaborated with LEE on "Night and Day"; and JUNG is part of HONG's upcoming Jal Aljido Mothamyeonseo (English translation: "when you don't know"). Director HONG Sang-soo is in production on his ninth feature film, tentatively titled "Like You Know It All" ("You Don't Even Know" - Jal al-ji-do mot-ha-myun-seo). The film, HONG's second to be shot in HD following his previous feature "Night and Day", has an ultra-low budget of only US$100,000. HONG is one of Korea's leading auteur directors, with many of his films screening at international festivals. Several of his films have been released in France and retrospectives of HONG's oeuvre have been organized in Toronto, San Francisco, Irvine, and Montreal, among other cities. The new project stars HONG regulars, KIM Tae-woo ("Woman is the Future of Man"), EOM Ji-won ("Tale of Cinema"), and KO Hyeon-jeong ("Woman on the Beach"). June 3, 2008 (Los Angeles) - Now in its third year, the Korean Film Council's Filmmakers' Development Lab confirmed today the appointment of this year's Mentors, and also announced the five successful finalists who are this year's Fellows.
The Filmmakers' Development Lab (FDL) is an initiative of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) to pair industry professionals and emerging filmmakers from Korea and the Korean diaspora to help realize their English language projects. The Fellows are chosen from open application and project submission process. The program begins with one-on-one mentoring at an intensive one-week script development Lab which will be held in late June in Jeju Island, Korea. The Fellows and their projects are then brought to Independent Film Week (previously IFP Market) in New York in September, and to the Co-Production Forum at the Pusan International Film Festival and Asian Film Market in Korea in October. Among the new slate of talented young Korean directors, the brothers JEONG Beom-sik and JEONG Sik are among its leading exponents; the latest development around their debut film "Epitaph" (Gidam) is the sale of its distribution rights to North America (TLA Releasing), Hong Kong (Celestial Movies Channel) and Japan (CCRE) by Studio 2.0 at the Hong Kong Filmart. Studio 2.0 also sold the rights of "Highway Star" (Bokmyeon Dalho), starring CHA Tae-hyeon, to Hong Kong (Celestial Movies Channel), China (H.G.C.) and Vietnam (Diamond Cinema). Animation "Aachi and Ssipak" was picked up by Spain's Notro and "Lovers of 6 Years" (Yooknyeonjjae Yeonae Joong) with KIM Ha-neul will be released in Vietnam (Diamond Cinema).
