The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) held a booming Korean Film Night reception at the 16th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) on Sunday night (Oct 9) at the Paradise Hotel in Haeundae. The governmental organization estimates about 700 guests came to the reception, making it the largest it has thrown yet.
KOFIC Chairman KIM Eui-suk welcomed foreign and domestic guests saying, "The Korean Film Council is getting ready to make leaps and bounds in terms of development along with the Korean film industry after a bit of a hiatus".
He added, "It is my heartfelt wish that tonight will provide the opportunity for exchanges between filmmakers from both Korea and overseas and I hope that those exchanges and meetings will continue to develop in the future".
BIFF Festival Director LEE Yong Kwan, Honorary Festival Director Kim Dong-ho, veteran filmmaker Im Kwon-taek, Tokyo International Film Festival head and Gaga Chairman Tatsumi Tom Yoda, Berlin International Film Festival Forum's Christophe Terhechte, the Cannes Film Festival's Christian JEUNE, actress KIM Kkobi, New York Asian Film Festival programmer Goran TOPALOVIC, director Jeon Kyu-hwan andproducers Cha Seung-jae, Choi Yong-bae and Lorna TEE were amongst those who attended the networking event.
Chairman Kim Ui-suk promised them that"KOFIC will cooperate more closely with those in the film industry outside Korea to create a common market and we'll continue to do out level best to create a favorable structure within the industry so that many great Korean films can be made".
KOFIC also screened a video on locations incentives, shooting and doing post-production in Korea with clips from films, sites and interviews with locations managers, VFX directors and film directors such as the Chinese hit director FENGXiaogeng who praised the Korean filmmakers they had worked with.
