With less than five days remaining until the London 2012 Olympics get underway with a grand opening ceremony,. President Lee Myung-bak has called on the Korean national team to put up a "good fight" at the games as it will give great hope and comfort to the Korean people at a time of economic hardship.
In his bi-weekly radio address to the nation Monday, President Lee said he is confident that the Korean team will achieve its goal of finishing in the top 10 with at least 10 gold medals.
Recalling Korea's debut at the previous London Olympics in 1948, just after the country's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, President Lee expressed his pride that Korea became a genuine sporting powerhouse in the recent Beijing and Vancouver games.
The president added that Korea can further enhance its presence on the international stage if it continues to excel in sport.
