Lee Wan's Fan Meetings Draw 2,000 Japanese Fans

Actor Lee Wan has recently held his first fan meeting in Japan, heralding the birth of another hallyu star.

The actor met with his Japanese fans twice on July 10 at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo, drawing some one thousand fans, and will hold another fan meeting on July 12 in Osaka.

Hosted by anchor Shirai Kyoko from Tokyo Broadcasting System, the meetings were held in the form of a talk show, with Lee answering his fans' questions.

Asked how he relieves fatigue, the actor said he doesn't feel fatigued when he feels satisfied with his acting despite tight filming schedules when he can sleep only three or four hours a week. However, he added that currently he is satisfied with his acting in only one out of 100 scenes he films, but will continue to work to perfect his acting skills.

On the type of women he likes, Lee said he would like to have an understanding, considerate and wise girlfriend who would also like him a lot.

Lee evoked laughter from his fans when he danced in a retro style with actress Bae Seul-ki, who appeared as a guest at Lee's fan meeting. The actor also played one of the original sound tracks of his TV drama "Trees in Heaven" and sang "Where Farewells Don't Exist".

In the finale of the event, Lee presented a white rose to each of his fans and shook hands with them as well as posed for commemorative photos. The majority of the fans were women in their 20s to 40s, but several of them included men and 50-something women as well.

A 29-year-old woman from Chiba Prefecture said she was particularly attracted to Lee's charming eyes when she first saw him in the series "Trees in Heaven", and that she liked the fan meeting because it was held in a family-like atmosphere and she was able to pose for photos with the actor.

Each of the fan meetings lasted two hours, with some 130 journalists from 15 local media outlets competing for coverage.

Lee will return to Korea on July 13 after holding two more fan meetings in Osaka. The actors' fan meetings will be produced into a documentary and sold as DVDs.

Lee gained popularity in Japan for his role in the series "Stairway to Heaven". Fuji TV is currently airing another series starring the actor, entitled "Trees in Heaven". He also appeared in the film "Veronika Decides to Die", which was presented at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
