From director Chu Chang-min comes Mapado, an offbeat comedy about two men who sail to an island only to find themselves fending off the advances of a group of quirky locals. A handsome gangster named Jae-Chul (Once Upon a Time in High School's Lee Jeong-jin) and his cohort, the corrupt police detective Chung-Soo (Hi, Dharma's Lee Moon-sik) travel to the remote island of Mapado in order to nab a woman who's run off with a $16 billion won lotto jackpot.

Strangely, the isle seems to be populated only by five saucy old widows who apparently haven't laid eyes on a single human male in over twenty years! While the men search for the missing woman, they are forced to deal with a group of outrageous geriatrics who are more than willing to make the men's trip a living nightmare! Can the not-so-dynamic duo survive the figurative slings and arrows dealt out by the bizarre grandmothers? Will their quest for the almighty dollar be successful? And just what are those ladies up on the deserted island of Mapado? This and a whole lot more can be discovered in Mapado, a slapstick-heavy comedy that's sure to entertain!

Loads of fun on Mapa Island Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10

In "Mapado", a former extortionist who is trying, but failing, to run a legitimate business, stakes his future on winning the lottery. He sends his office assistant to buy him a ticket, with a number that he routinely plays in the lottery.

Before she returns to the office, the office assistant learns that the ticket that she just purchased for her boss is the winning ticket for a jackpot of $16,000,000. Rather than returning to the office, she flees with the ticket, intending to cash it in for herself.

The former extortionist then sends one of his henchman and a corrupt cop to track the girl down and get his ticket. This mismatched pair learn that the girl originally is from a place called Mapa Island and assume that she has gone there to hide. They travel to this remote island to find her ... and that's when the fun starts.

The cop and the henchman pretend to be tourists on a fishing trip when they arrive at the island, but what they find is an island that is uninhabited except for five older women. The women quickly enlist the two men in helping with their chores, such as tilling the fields and patching the roofs on their homes.

Will the men ever catch the girl and get the ticket? Will they go stir-crazy on this island? Will they be driven crazy by the old ladies (or each other)? Watching this terrific film to find the answers to these questions proves to be a lot of fun.

A terrific ensemble cast serves up lots of laughs and leavened with just enough action and suspense. I highly recommend "Mapado" for a general audience. You've never seen anything quite like this and you won't be disappointed!
