Right under the summit of Baengnokdam, 1,900 meters above sea level on the western side of Mt. Halla, Sasa palmata, a light-green colored indigenous plant species only seen on the mountain covers the cliff all the way up to the summit. The species is growing at ever greater elevations, now approaching the Baengnokdam crater. Crowberry and Sargent Juniper, also native to the area, have had their original homes stolen by the encroaching Sasa palmata and it seems that they might not be able to survive another few years.
The white flowers of hanragujeolcho plants bloom from cracks in the rock, avoiding Sasa palmata`s steady advancement, yet are still in danger. Native azaleas, which paint the mountain`s spring with red, are buried amongst the sea of Sasa palmatas with only their tips visible. While the official announcement is yet to be made, the Ministry of Education will announce the plan to nationalize Korean history textbooks for middle and high schools on Oct. 12 at the earliest and then immediately start transitioning to the nationalized textbooks.
The first step is to determine if authorities approve textbooks for secondary schools before its official announcement. In general, legislative notification and administrative notification are given in order to receive opinions from the people concerning main agendas. But since further opinions would not make a change, this step is no more than a formality. The ministry will set the administrative notification for 20 days and make an official announcement of their decision to implement the nationally approved and standardized textbooks in early November...More
