Michael Nyman to Compose for Local Film

Contemporary minimalist composer Michael Nyman has agreed to score the music for local filmmaker Kim Ki-duk's new film.
Nyman, 60, is most known for his work on British art director Peter Greenaway's films and Jane Campion's "The Piano" from 1993. When he came to Seoul for a concert in early June, Nyman spoke of his admiration for Kim's film "Pom Yorum Kaul Kyoul... Kurigo Pom (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring)" and his wish to work with the director.

Nyman met with Kim during that visit and agreed to compose the score for Kim's film "Pinjip" for only $10,000.

The film, Kim's 11th, will go into production Friday and is being made with a $1 million investment from a Japanese company, according to Yonhap News Agency.
