Naver to Open Characters Store in New York

Line Friends, a subsidiary of Korea's largest portal site Naver, will open a store in New York's Time Square in July. The company is the character brand of Naver's messaging app Line.

Line Friends said Monday that it will open a 430 sq.m store in the Big Apple to coincide with the first anniversary of Line being listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Some 330,000 people pass through Time Square every day, and LINE Friends hopes to lure New Yorkers with a giant LED billboard.

Line Friends sells stationery, toys and other goods using characters from the messaging app used by 220 million people worldwide. There are 28 these stores in 11 countries including Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan.
