Ocean World, one of the major ocean parks in Korea, began to provide upgraded attractions for visitors in preparation for the peak summer season which will begin next month.

Officials at the park, located inside Daemyung Vivaldi Park in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, said in a press conference Wednesday that it has improved accommodation for user convenience.

"This year, we focused on enhancing accommodation and amenities. We increased the number of lockers and shower facilities at the park so that we can accommodate more visitors, who can use them without feeling inconvenienced. We also enhanced the water quality", said Cho Hyun-chul, president of Daemyung Leisure Industry.

The enhancement in the facilities comes after the ocean park attracted 1.72 million people last year, the highest since its establishment in 2006.

In an effort to attract more visitors, the park set up 375 more lockers on the third floor. There are now 20,997 lockers and bigger changing room space. The number of shower stalls was also increased by 135 to 485. Toilet facilities were also expanded.

The water quality in the Surfing Mount wave pool has been improved through additional purification devices. Other enhancements include more outdoor breast feeding rooms, shelters for missing children, and medical facilities.

Free shuttle buses will be offered throughout the peak season until October.

"We plan to operate the shuttle bus until Oct. 7 in the metropolitan region. We're the only one out of all the ocean parks that operates shuttle buses for free", an official from the park said.

Those who want to ride the shuttle bus must make a reservation through the website a day in advance.

Musical entertainment

Ocean World will hold a Disney Summer Fantasia from June 16 to Aug. 31. The attraction areas such as the Extreme Zone and Mega Slide Zone will be turned into a space to experience Disney characters. The park will show Disney movies every Saturday and hold mini orchestra festivals with guest singers.

For the elderly, the park offers concerts with popular singing groups. From July to August, there will be different guests invited to the concert every week. Until Aug. 18, Mega Concert featuring popular singers such as Crying Nut and DJ DOC will be held at 2 p.m. every Saturday. During the first and second week of August, from Wednesday to Friday, a DJ club will open to offer dancing and various other events.
