“Duelist” Ranked Disappointing 19th at French Box Office

The Korean movie "Duelist" directed by Lee Myung-se ranked no higher than 19th during the first week of its wide release in France, unprecedented for a Korean movie.

The U.S. box office site Box Office Mojo said Thursday that the Korean movie, starring Ha Ji-won and Gang Dong-won, earned US$126,230 for the week after its May 17th opening in 91 theaters in major cities in France such as Paris, Bordeaux, and Lyon.

The film was distributed in France by La Fabrique de Films, which imported and distributed Lee's previous work "Nowhere To Hide".

Atop the French box office for the same week was "The Da Vinci Code", which earned US$12.19 million in 885 theaters. "Mission: Impossible 3" slid from 2nd to 5th place.
