One Film Shines Light On Korean Animation Film Industry

One film seems to be shining some light on the future of the Korean animation industry.

'Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild', a Korean animated film about the adventure of a hen who leaves her chicken farm to realize her dream of hatching her own egg has been receiving special attention from foreign buyers.
It's been praised for its universal appeal that's not only limited to Asian audiences, as well as a strong storyline, colorful characters, and a captivating soundtrack.

Some of Korea's renowned actors also took part in the film including actress Moon So-ri, who voices the lead character, Leafie.

[Interview : Moon So-ri, Voice of Leafie 'Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild'] "The actors created the characters on their own and the illustrations were done to match them. Then we recorded again. I hope that this process helps to better deliver the emotions of these characters to the audience".

The movie is based on an original story published in 2000 which went on to sell over a million copies thanks to its literary value which challenges the divide between people and animals.

[Interview : Sung Yeol-hong, President Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency] "We plan to invest more in not only Korean animated films, but also in movies, dramas, games, and other children-related content to help them make the leap internationally".

The animated movie market is estimated to be worth around 15 billion US dollars worldwide.
But animated films in Korea have a rather small presence with the failure of recent animated films
'Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild' hopes to change all that when it opens in theaters on July 28th.
