Orphaned as children, siblings Gun (Gong Yoo) and Ha Neul (Sung Yu Ri) are adopted into very different lives. In Korea, Ha Neul grows up in a wealthy, loving family, so loving that she finds it suffocating. In Australia, Gun becomes a small-time gangster whose main talents are swindling and fighting. Gun has a long-time admirer in his adopted sister Hyo Ju (Lee Yeon Hee), while Ha Neul wins the affections of Dong Ho (Nam Gung Min), director of the aquarium she secretly works at. Worlds apart from each other, they reunite after 15 years of separation when Gun returns to Korea. Gun originally just wants to swindle money from Ha Neul, but he can't help protecting and caring for his little sister. As the two grow closer, their relationship and feelings become more complicated. Are they just brother and sister - or is it something more?

건과 하늘은 어린 시절 부모를 여의고 건은 호주로 떠나게 되고 하늘은 입양을 가게 된다.
그렇게 15년 후.. 건은 호주에서 주먹과 사기로 얼룩진 생활을 하고 있고, 하늘은 박혜원이란 이름으로 거짓 삶을 살고 있다. 그러던 중, 한국으로 건너간 성찬에게서 하늘이를 찾았다는 연락을 받고 건은 한국으로 돌아오게 된다.그리고, 건을 자신의 목숨보다 더 사랑하는 효주 역시 건을 따라서 한국으로 돌아온다.

우여곡절 끝에 만난 하늘과 건. 하늘은 건이 자신의 친 오빠가 아니라는 사실을 모른 채, 곁에 자신을 사랑해주는 동하를 두고도 건에게 자꾸만 마음이 끌리지만 마음을 다시금 다잡고는 한다. 건 역시 하늘에게 마음이 끌리고 이를 지켜보는 동하와 효주는 애타는 마음을 감출 수가 없다. 네 남녀의 갈등이 깊어갈 때쯤, 하늘이는 건과 자신이 친남매가 아니라는 사실을 알게 되지만, 그 동안 양심의 가책을 느꼈던 하늘이 양아버지의 자살과 효주의 병세 악화로 인해 건과 하늘은 다시 만날 것을 약속하고 또다시 이별을 하게 된다.

시간이 흘러 3년뒤.. 동하와 하늘은 편안한 사이로 돌아갔고, 그 동안 맘껏 건과 사랑을 했던 효주는 ‘이제 하늘이가 기다리는 곳으로 돌아가라’는 말을 남기고 그를 떠나갔다. 추억의 장소에서 서로를 그리워하던 두 사람. 안타깝게도 계속 엇갈리기만 하다가 아쿠아리움에서 감격의 재회를 맞이한다.
