Online Videos to Be Subject to Review

Beginning Oct. 29, Internet movie and video downloads will be reviewed and rated by the Korea Media Rating Board when new regulations concerning movies and videos go into effect, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said yesterday.

As of now, only offline material is subject for review. However the new set of regulations has expanded the meaning of the term "video" so that it will not only refer to material that can be played on VHS, DVD and CD-ROM but also on cellular and digital devices.

Only material purchased with money, cyber cash or mileage will undergo review for rating. Videos and clips provided free of charge or live broadcasts are exempt from review.
