Singer Patti Kim (74), who has been greatly loved by many people for the past 50 years, will retire. Patti Kim held a press conference at the international conference room of the Press Center on February 15 and announced that she will retire after she finishes her global concert tour entitled "Parting", which will begin in June to commemorate her retirement.
Her agency PK Production said, "Patti Kim celebrated the 54th anniversary of her debut as a singer this year and she has decided to retire. She will hold her last concert tour from June by visiting her fans at home and abroad who have shown love to her up to now. She made this decision regarding her retirement with great difficulty because singing on the stage has been regarded as the most important thing to her since her debut". Patti Kim passionately sang at her concert tour celebrating the 50th anniversary in 2008, so her decision is very surprising. But the rumor that she has been preparing her last concert has already been spreading from last year.
Patti Kim became a singer by singing for the US Army in Korea in 1958, and she has been regarded as the best diva in the Korean music industry. With her extraordinary singing ability and her charismatic and polished appearance, she has released many hit songs such as "Anthem to Seoul", "Thorn Bird", "Unforgettable", and "Love that Left Autumn Behind". Patti Kim set many records. In 1960, she became the first Korean singer whom the Japanese government invited after Korea's liberation, she used the term "recital" for the first time as a popular singer in 1962, and she hosted the TV program that was titled after a person's name for the first time in 1967. She performed at the Sejong Center for the first time as a popular singer in 1978 and she also performed at the world's renowned performing halls Carnegie Hall in New York and the Opera House in Sydney.
Patti Kim revealed her feelings about her fifty-year experience as a singer and why she has come to decide on retirement during the press conference. Popular music critic Im Jin Mo participated in the press conference and presented his opinions on how Patti Kim has influenced Korean popular music history.
