[TALK OF THE TOWN] Boot camp beckons for boy band balladeer

Last Monday at an army training camp in Gongju, South Chungcheong, some 200 fans from Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, were waiting for one lucky guy - star singer Kim Dong-wan.

It was the day Kim from Korea's long-time idol group Shinhwa joined the army.

After four weeks in boot camp, he begins a two-year stint at the Seodaemun District Office, northern Seoul.

"I will do my best to serve the country", Kim said. "Please look after the other guys in Shinhwa".

Kim is the second member of the band to enter the army.

Date Set for Kim Dong-wan's Military Enlistment

Shinhwa member and soloist Kim Dong-wan (29) is enlisting in the mandatory military service on November 17th. He will join the 32nd training camp at Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do Province. Kim is the second Shinhwa member to enlist after Eric.

H2 Entertainment, the agency representing the singer, stated that Kim will receive five weeks of basic training at the Gongju camp, then continue onto the public service sector. "Currently, Kim Dong-wan is in the middle of recording his last album before his service", they added. The single album is set to be released early next month.

Kim Dong-wan made his solo debut with the title track, "Handkerchief", in June of last year. His second solo album came out last May and in September, he successfully held his first solo concert. ...| More

Singer M Sizzles in Concert

Singer M has made a splash with a sizzling club concert on Sunday. Lee Min-woo of idol group Shinhwa, who also performs as a solo artist M, has celebrated the release of his fourth solo album "M Rising" with concerts in the hip Cheongdam-dong neighborhood in southern Seoul Sunday night. He showcased most of his hits, such as "Just One Night" and "If You", as well as all the songs from his latest album.

In a press conference held prior to the concerts, M said that he couldn't forget the excitement and appeal of a live concert, which prompted him to hold one again. He also said that he wanted to get closer to his fans.

The concerts were for only mature audience of 19 or older. M once again impressed his fans with his powerful and sexy dance moves, as well as some risqué silhouette performance. Kim Dong-wan to Hold Farewell Concert

Singer Kim Dong-wan will hold his last concert before he begins his military duties. Kim's farewell concert, entitled "Promises", will be held at the main auditorium of Ewha Women's University at 7:00 p.m. on August 20 and 21. Fellow Shinhwa members will join Kim during the special concert.

Kim made his solo debut last year with his first album featuring the title song "Handkerchief". His first solo album received a favorable response from his fans, who welcomed his ballad-style songs as a fresh change from his Shinhwa days. Popular K-pop artists have been invited to make guest appearances at his upcoming concert including Kim Hyun-chul, Sweet Sorrow, Kim Jae-seok and Younha.
