The first plane carrying 120 Japanese tourists will arrive in Muan International Airport from Fukuoka for a four-day stay.
The tourists will tour famous sites in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province.
The package is being organized by Asiana Airlines and Seil Tour. The itinerary includes famous TV drama filming sites and theme parks, as well as tourism sites that have a special meaning in terms of Korea's ties with Japan, such as Jin Island and Mokpo.
The South Jeolla provincial government will welcome the first group of tourists with flowers, souvenirs and tourism guide booklets, and will work toward improving Muan airport's reputation and enhancing tourist satisfaction.
An official from the South Jeolla government said hopefully more Japanese tourists will visit South Jeolla with the opening of the airport, and pledged efforts to promote South Jeolla tourism in Japan by capitalizing on the area's growing popularity among Japanese people.
