It's no secret that Korean music and culture is no longer exclusively popular on Korean soil. The latest evidence for this? Both Psy and Super Junior have been nominated for awards at this year's MTV European Music Awards.
Psy's viral hit music video "Gangnam Style" has been nominated for the Best Video category, putting him in the running against Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, M.I.A., and Rihanna. This makes Psy's video the only non-English song in the running.
As for the group Super Junior, they were nominated under the Best Asian Act category. The winner of this category gets to proceed into the next round to determine the Best Worldwide Act winner. Last year, Big Bang was nominated under the Worldwide Act Asia Pacific Nominees, before they took home the Best Worldwide Act as well.
This, Super Junior will take on other nominated acts from Asia like Japan's EXILE, China's Hangeng (former member of Super Junior), Taiwan's Jolin Tsai, and Malaysia's Yuna.
Votes will be accepted for Psy and Super Junior until November 9th.
The actual MTV EMA's for 2012 will take place in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday, November 11th at the Festhalle.
